Fierce competition

As one of the key teacher training institutions in the country, in 2025, nearly 17,500 candidates registered to take the competency assessment exam organized by Hanoi National University of Education, an increase of nearly 6,000 candidates compared to 2024. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son - Principal of the school said that more than 500 candidates who won national excellent student awards (from third prize and above) applied for admission and met the admission requirements. That shows that the attraction of the pedagogical industry is growing.

In addition, the Law on Teachers passed by the National Assembly with many preferential policies for teachers has created motivation for many students to "apply" for the industry. From practice, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son predicts that the benchmark score in 2025 for teacher training majors will increase compared to last year.

In recent years, the admission scores for teacher training majors are often much higher than for some other majors and training programs. Associate Professor Dr. Mai Xuan Truong - Principal of the University of Education ( Thai Nguyen University) predicts that for teacher training majors, this year's benchmark scores will not be lower than last year, some majors may be 2-3 points higher.

Currently, pedagogical students not only receive tuition and living expenses support, but after graduating and working at educational institutions, they also enjoy benefits, incentives, and special policies. "This is clearly stipulated in the Law on Teachers, becoming one of the reasons why the pedagogical profession is increasingly attractive, leading to the possibility of increasing benchmark scores," Associate Professor Dr. Mai Xuan Truong commented.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2025, the majors of Physical Education, Sports Training, Music Pedagogy, and Fine Arts Pedagogy will have a "floor score" of 18 with a combination of three cultural subjects. The remaining majors will have a floor score of 19. In particular, the major of Preschool Education at college level will have a "floor score" of 16.5.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Nam - Vice Rector of the University of Education (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) commented that the benchmark scores for pedagogical majors in 2025 will continue to remain stable compared to 2024, with some majors likely to increase sharply. This increase comes not only from enrollment needs, but also from the positive psychological impact before the Law on Teachers officially takes effect from January 1, 2026.

"Boost" from the Law on Teachers

Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thanh Nam said that the Law on Teachers passed by the National Assembly has created a big "boost" in terms of spirit and professional status. The law not only affirms the key role of teachers in the national education system, but also introduces a series of preferential policies such as: Teachers' salaries are ranked at the highest level in the public career system; preferential allowances for profession, region, and responsibility; and retirement policies suitable for each level of education and region. "These are all policies that are creating great expectations for the future generation of teachers," Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thanh Nam emphasized.

According to the predictions of some experts, the majors of Mathematics Pedagogy, Physics Pedagogy, Chemistry Pedagogy at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Saigon University, Quy Nhon University, University of Education (Hue University), Hanoi University of Education, Hanoi University of Education 2 will have the same or higher standard scores than last year by about 0.5 points. The majors of Literature Pedagogy, History Pedagogy, Geography Pedagogy may increase by 1 - 1.5 points compared to 2024. In particular, the majors of Primary Education and Preschool Pedagogy are likely to increase significantly due to additional specific support policies for preschool and primary school teachers.

Explaining the attraction of the pedagogical industry, Dr. Vo Van Minh - Principal of the University of Education (University of Danang) analyzed that the pedagogical industry quota is currently not large while the level of competition is high because there are many candidates applying for admission. The government has many support policies for pedagogical students such as: Tuition exemption, living expenses support, so most candidates only study with real capacity. In addition, job positions after graduation are also of interest to many localities, ensuring output.

In particular, with the promulgation of the Law on Teachers, the position of teachers has been raised, teachers' salaries are ranked at the highest level, attracting more candidates. Currently, many localities still have a serious shortage of teachers, this reality makes students more interested in and register for admission to the teaching profession.

In addition to policy factors, the teaching profession has become attractive thanks to the shift in students' thinking when choosing a career. Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Nam said that many students have realized that education is not only a stable career, but also brings value to society and can change their lives.

Another key factor that increases the attractiveness of the teaching profession is the excellent financial support policy. Teacher training majors are exempt from tuition fees according to Decree 116/2020/ND-CP, and students are supported with about 3.6 million VND/month for living expenses during their studies. This helps to significantly reduce the financial burden compared to many other "hot" majors.

In addition, teacher training colleges are also proactive in seeking scholarships, providing financial support and building clear career paths for students after graduation. “All of these factors have been and are creating a shift in awareness and career choice behavior of candidates,” Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thanh Nam explained.

According to data from the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2024, the number of applications for teacher training programs will increase by 85%, equivalent to 200,000 applications, while the enrollment target will not change much.

The sharp increase in the number of applications has caused the benchmark scores for many pedagogical majors in 2024 to increase by 0.25 - 2 points compared to 2023, with some majors achieving near-perfect scores. It is forecasted that the benchmark scores for this group of majors this year will be higher than last year, with some majors possibly reaching a near-ceiling threshold.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training's guidelines for university and college admissions in 2025, by 5:00 p.m. on August 20, training institutions will enter the admission scores and admission results into the System. Review and prepare to announce the first round of admission results according to the general schedule. Training institutions will notify candidates who have passed the first round before 5:00 p.m. on August 22. Candidates confirm their admission online for the first round on the System before 5:00 p.m. on August 30.
