Improving university governance capacity
According to the Party's policy, Vietnam strives to develop a number of higher education institutions on par with the region and the world, and to form national innovation centers linked with businesses and research institutes.
That policy is concretized through the Conclusion Notice 45-TB/TGV of the Working Group assisting the Central Steering Committee on Science , Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation. Danang University is one of four universities in Vietnam selected for key investment to serve as a model for the higher education system.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - Director of Danang University said that this is a great honor and opportunity, and at the same time, it is associated with a very high responsibility for the staff, lecturers and students of Danang University to demonstrate their pioneering and breakthrough role in training high-quality human resources. This is not only the main product and value that universities provide to society, but also the golden key to determining competitiveness and labor productivity for localities to attract strong investment and businesses to develop sustainably.
Danang University has completed the project to develop into an international-class university according to Conclusion No. 45. The focus in the coming period is to improve university governance capacity, expand autonomy associated with accountability, and at the same time identify and remove "bottlenecks" in the organizational structure, streamline the apparatus to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
Danang University will establish specialized working groups on university rankings, digital transformation, and university-enterprise cooperation, under the direct guidance of the Board of Directors and the Boards of Rectors of member schools, ensuring synchronous and effective coordination.
In parallel, the work of developing the team is given special attention, aiming to select lecturers with doctoral degrees, with research capacity and good command of English; striving to have at least 60% of training programs in science, engineering and technology taught in English by 2030. The University of Foreign Languages - Danang University plays a core role in training and fostering foreign language skills for students, meeting output standards, contributing to creating an internationally integrated learning environment.
The University of Danang aims to be among the top 150 universities in Asia, have at least one major group in the top 100 universities in the world; create 50 start-up businesses each year and attract at least 50 million USD for research and technology. These are the tasks assigned according to the Central's conclusions on science - technology development and innovation.
To strengthen facilities and resources for research, Danang University prioritizes sources to increase the proportion of funding for scientific research, especially scientific research among students at a certain and more satisfactory rate; actively support students in research with lecturers. Schools and units allocate specific levels of support and criteria for supporting student topics, with timely rewards and incentives.
In addition, member schools need to proactively propose and prepare plans and projects to participate in and seize opportunities in programs, projects, and portfolios receiving key state investment; encourage schools and units to proactively research and establish new innovation centers and excellent scientific research centers, focusing on key industries.
Towards a regional center of science - technology - innovation
The spirit of Resolution 57-NQ/TW is that scientific research must create breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation, creating more wealth for society; contributing, building and criticizing policies for the development of localities, businesses and the country. Therefore, scientists and lecturers need not only to research what they have but also need to focus on researching what society needs.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu said that in order to propose tasks that meet the requirements of localities, businesses and society, it is necessary to strengthen the connection with localities and businesses. This is also the appropriate direction that Danang University is implementing.
"There needs to be a breakthrough first of all in the thinking and awareness from the leaders of Danang University to schools and units, unifying common awareness, considering science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as extremely important and urgent tasks. From there, clearly define goals, requirements, motivations, resources and breakthrough solutions. The spirit of "breakthrough" is also applied to schools and units to first create a "breakthrough" compared to themselves in order to rise up" - the Director of Danang University affirmed.
For “breakthroughs” in industries and fields, schools and units need to take advantage of opportunities, be proactive, grasp them promptly, and stay ahead of trends. Typically, the University of Science and Technology - Danang University is promoting the opening of new majors such as Railway-Metro Construction, Energy Management to serve human resources for Nuclear Power, etc. All three universities, the University of Science and Technology, the University of Technical Education, and the Vietnam-Korea University of Information Technology and Communications, have opened majors and trained in Microcircuit Design. The University of Economics and the Vietnam-Korea University of Information Technology and Communications have opened majors and trained in Financial Technology, etc. Thanks to that, there are more opportunities to invest in and develop facilities and laboratories.
Regarding the development of research forces, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu proposed that schools and units proactively invite leading international scientists and experts, especially in key industries and fields, to have more leading scientists, leading key science and technology programs and strong research groups. This is also a contribution to the implementation of the Plan to attract 100 good experts to participate in the national key artificial intelligence development program of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
With the orientation of developing into a national center of science, technology and innovation, Danang University is accelerating the Danang University Construction Project in Hoa Quy - Dien Ngoc. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu said that this project not only expands the development space but also resonates with the Key Investment Project according to Conclusion No. 45, creating a solid foundation for Danang University to break through to new heights.
Danang University determines that all innovation, research and training activities must be closely linked to serving the socio-economic development of the region and the country, especially in key areas such as information technology, artificial intelligence, energy, environment, smart cities and logistics.
