At the talk show "F&B industry thirsts for human resources - Why do young workers turn their backs?" held at the Youth Cultural House (HCMC) on the afternoon of November 9, organized by the Lao Dong Newspaper, businesses affirmed that the quality of spiritual life of workers is an important factor in promoting the development of businesses.
Businesses must prepare
Ms. Lam Thuy Ai - Vice President of Saigon Entrepreneurs Association, General Director of Mebi Farm Joint Stock Company - continuously emphasized that GenZ generation are interesting workers, love innovation, and are willing to contribute. However, this is also a rather straightforward generation of workers.
"As a mother of two children, I completely understand the psychology of the younger generation. When they go to practice or work, they want to learn one-on-one to learn directly from the manager. They are willing to contribute but must learn valuable things to keep them long-term" - Ms. Ai said.

Before becoming an entrepreneur, Ms. Lam Thuy Ai worked part-time at a coffee shop for about 5 years. Thanks to that, during the process of starting a business, she understood the psychology of workers and had appropriate support policies.
On the other hand, many young workers are also quite difficult when the business leaders themselves are not up to standard, say one thing and do another, are not punctual, are not transparent... Sometimes just small things, unrelated to work, can more or less change the thinking of young workers about long-term commitment.
At the talk show, Ms. Ai introduced the Family Day program. This is a program that connects workers' families, workers and businesses. Through these activities, families can better understand their loved ones' working environment, thereby sympathizing and reducing unnecessary conflicts.
"When employees are happy, the quality of work will be better, which will help the business develop strongly" - Ms. Ai emphasized.
Business needs and the paradox of supply and demand
Mr. Duong Viet Linh, Senior Manager of Good Jobs, encourages recent graduates not to be afraid of making mistakes when applying for jobs. Instead, accept them with a progressive attitude, learn from experience and gradually improve yourself.
According to the 2025 Mass Recruitment Market report, a paradoxical panorama of the Vietnamese food and beverage (F&B) industry is emerging: the sector is booming but is in a serious human resource crisis.
In the first 9 months of 2025 alone, the recruitment demand of the F&B industry increased by 30.6%, ranking second in the entire labor market, only after the sales - cashier - PG group (+66.8%). There is a notable difference in the perception of reasons for leaving work, especially in terms of career development opportunities.

Students of Ho Chi Minh City Open University attentively follow the talk show
Businesses believe that employees quit their jobs because they are attracted to other jobs that are more flexible and pay higher salaries, but their income is not as high as expected and they cannot meet flexible working hours. Employees "jump jobs" because their income is not enough to cover their living expenses (65.2%), their working hours are not fixed, and there is no opportunity for advancement.
