The working delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training , led by Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, inspected and grasped the actual situation of response and recovery after floods of member educational institutions of Danang University and presented support gifts.
Correct and timely support
According to quick data compiled from the Student Affairs Department of member universities and training units of Danang University, there are more than 800 students affected, whose families suffered damage due to floods.
Dr. Huynh Minh Son, Deputy Head of the Student Affairs, Corporate Relations and Communications Department, said: "Universities have proactively implemented safety measures such as encouraging students staying in low-lying areas to move to dormitories or to safe temporary shelters. However, there are still situations where students staying in rented accommodation are deeply flooded, leading to damage to property, personal belongings, clothes, books, learning equipment and means of transport."

Through the survey, students in areas such as Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang (Hoi An, Dien Ban, Dai Loc, Duy Xuyen, Thuong Duc, Ha Nha areas...) suffered heavy damage to their houses, properties, livestock, poultry, rice fields, crops... Especially, students whose families are small and retail production households such as shrimp and fish farming in cages/rafts from loans from local policy banks suffered heavy damage, lost their means of livelihood, and had long-term effects on their lives and economy . Some cases reported that their families were unable to pay tuition fees, hoping that the school and all levels would consider and support them.
Reporting to the working group, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Director of Danang University, said: "Based on quick statistics from students, Danang University has directed member universities to urgently check and verify each specific situation and condition to have appropriate support plans. The viewpoint is to provide timely and appropriate support, and at the same time, along with immediate encouragement, long-term support plans must be taken into account such as prioritizing scholarships; debt relief, tuition fee collection extension....".
Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong said that for students whose families were severely affected by storms and floods, timely support is very important. However, teachers and youth organizations need to pay attention to the psychology of students during their studies to encourage and support them in the long term because when the family's income is negatively affected, it will have a big impact on students. Schools need to pay timely attention and have solutions to mobilize resources and support society to help students feel secure in their studies.
Proactively implement 4 on-site plans in storm prevention, control and recovery
Danang University always closely follows and strictly implements the directives and dispatches of local authorities, the Danang City Civil Defense Command and departments and branches to proactively respond to natural disasters and overcome damage caused by floods; informs and updates the weather to staff, lecturers and students.
Thanks to that, although the natural disaster situation in the past time has been complicated, the progress of teaching - learning, activities and safety, health of students as well as staff, lecturers and employees of Danang University continues to be maintained and stabilized. Teaching is still guaranteed with proactive and flexible forms of online/combined face-to-face and online. Assets, equipment, infrastructure serving teaching - learning, research and facilities are proactively covered, elevated and protected before and during the flood season, thus minimizing damage.
The Youth Union, Student Association of Danang University and schools and units promoted the spirit of volunteerism, established volunteer student teams on the spot to participate in overcoming the consequences of floods, cleaning the environment, lecture halls, dormitories... Immediately after the floods, student volunteer teams went to flooded areas, sharing with local people to clean schools, clear sewers, collect garbage and mud to restore the learning and living environment.

Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong acknowledged and highly appreciated the leadership, staff, teachers, employees and students of Danang University and its member universities, affiliated units and affiliated units for promoting the spirit of initiative, creativity and adaptation in preventing and combating natural disasters. Thanks to that, the level of influence and impact of floods has been minimized, with special attention paid to ensuring the safety and health of teachers and students, protecting property, equipment, facilities and flexible and effective learning progress.
The Deputy Minister said that the Department of Education and Training always pays close attention to, shares with, and accompanies the Department of Education and Training of localities, including Da Nang city and Da Nang University, in the work of preventing, combating, and overcoming damage caused by natural disasters.
Appreciating Danang University for actively mobilizing scholarship sources, including valuable support from businesses for students, the representative of the Ministry of Education and Training said that the donation and support activities for people in difficult circumstances due to storms and floods were widely launched by the Ministry of Education and Training with the whole country, demonstrating the tradition, spirit of mutual love, humanity and compatriotism.
On this occasion, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Training symbolically presented a donation of 200 million VND from the education and training sector to Da Nang University, thereby contributing to accompanying, supporting, and overcoming the consequences and damages caused by natural disasters.
Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong suggested that schools and units should have more forms of timely and flexible support, suitable for each situation and subject, in the spirit of not letting any student stop studying due to difficult circumstances after natural disasters. The need for support is very large, so it requires the cooperation of the entire industry, schools and society, and also needs to send support to the right people, to the right address, publicly and transparently, especially for students or students with especially difficult families.
