Through these competitions, many writers have been discovered and nurtured to go further.

More games, more opportunities

Recently, towards the 50th anniversary of the Mobile Police Force's Traditional Day (April 15, 1974 - April 15, 2024), the Ministry of Public Security has summarized and awarded prizes for competitions, creative camps and opened an exhibition of paintings and art photos about the Mobile Police. Among them, there was a writing competition and a literary camp, which awarded prizes to nearly 40 authors inside and outside the police force.

Over the past 20 years, in addition to the People's Public Security Publishing House regularly organizing a novel, story and memoir writing contest on the topic "For National Security and Peaceful Life", the Public Security Writers Association has also continuously organized the "Golden Pen" award. In the past three years, the Ministry of Public Security has held many writing contests on the People's Public Security Force, guards, mobile police, traffic police, and grassroots police.

For the Vietnam Writers Association , in addition to the annual awards, in 2022, a campaign for writing for children including poetry and prose was launched. Not long ago, the Vietnam Writers Association held the Literary Awards Ceremony, the Young Authors Award in 2023 and summarized the first phase of the Literary Creation Campaign on the topic of children. Accordingly, 16 authors and works were honored and the first prize went to the prose manuscript "Cats are not born just to catch and shoot" by author Duong Thi Thao Nguyen.

In addition, Van Nghe Newspaper (under the Vietnam Writers Association) organized the Launching Ceremony of the Short Story Contest 2022 - 2024. Kim Dong Publishing House also organized the Creative Campaign for Children 2023 - 2025.

Many writing competitions are also taking place in localities such as the Literature and Arts Association of Hoa Binh province launched the second poetry, short story, and literary essay contest called "Northwest Breezes"; Xu Thanh Magazine (Thanh Hoa Literature and Arts Association) in collaboration with the Ben En National Park Management Board launched the "Thanh Hoa Poetry" contest in 2024; "Huong River Short Story Contest 2024" (Thua Thien Hue Literature and Arts Association); Novel Writing Contest of Literature and Arts Times... In addition, a number of organizations and individuals also organize competitions such as the Duong Van Magazine Short Story Contest, the first San Ho New Writing Award, the "Southern Literature" Writing Contest...

Must be true to the meaning of nurturing talent

Writer Truong Anh Quoc, the author who won first prize in the "Literature of 20" contest in 2010 with the novel "The Sea", shared: "Through the contests, many writers were discovered and nurtured, thereby gaining motivation to develop and become more committed to the literary path."

Sharing the same view, writer Tong Phuoc Bao, who has had the chance and in 10 years of writing has had a "handful" of about 20 big and small awards, expressed: "Nowadays, many competitions are organized in major newspapers, industry newspapers, magazines and online literary forums. That is a playground for the community of writers that we should take advantage of and promote. However, as writers, we ourselves must know that these are talent training events and awards are a motivation for us to strive, not an illusion that we will die in."

Awards and creative campaigns are also places to find, promote and encourage authors, especially in topics that are still less interested such as children's literature. Deputy Director and Editor-in-Chief of Kim Dong Publishing House Vu Thi Quynh Lien said that the awards were established with the desire to discover new writers for children, to have more new quality literary works, conveying many meaningful messages about the people and country of Vietnam.

Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association Nguyen Quang Thieu affirmed that, regarding the awards and competitions of the Vietnam Writers Association, the award-winning authors have brought to the literary life a new spirit, a new look, a new path. The authors are all brave people, daring to overcome the old, the beaten path, the walls of the past to find their own path that "touches" the hearts of readers. The main trend of Vietnamese literary works in 2024 is still writers creating faith for people in today's challenging life. Writers must seek the beauty and great hope hidden in all aspects of social life to express in their works.
