According to Tech4Gamers , the graphics card market is heating up with the arrival of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series. However, the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB model, one of the expected names, brings somewhat surprising performance results.
RTX 5060 Ti performance surprisingly worse than RTX 4070
The RTX 5060 series is now available and the first reviews are coming in. The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB model has emerged as the most powerful in the segment, with a whopping 16GB of VRAM and performance that is advertised as being capable of handling games at 1,440p resolution.
However, the point worth mentioning is the ability to compete directly in terms of performance. According to recent reviews, at default performance (not overclocked), the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB cannot surpass the RTX 4070, the card in the higher segment of the previous generation. Notably, it can only beat the RTX 4070 after users perform a light overclock.

This is a notable contrast to Nvidia's history, where the "Ti" cards in the xx60 segment have historically delivered significantly better performance than the previous generation's xx70 models. The RTX 3060 Ti, for example, outperformed the RTX 2070 by a wide margin.
Tests from reputable channels like Digital Foundry indicate that the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB offers a performance increase of about 15% over its predecessor (possibly the RTX 4060 Ti), but this still leaves it about 5-10% behind the RTX 4070 at stock performance.
The good news is that the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB has good overclocking potential, pushing the GPU core clock above 3 GHz. When overclocked, the card can perform slightly faster than the RTX 4070 in some games like Black Myth: Wukong , even approaching the RTX 5070's performance. However, in terms of ray tracing, the previous-generation RTX 4070 still holds the advantage.
Overall, while the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB’s performance isn’t bad, the fact that it’s still slower than both the RTX 3080 (which was released 5 years ago) and the RTX 4070 at stock performance might give some users pause. The RTX 3080’s performance still isn’t exactly a breath of fresh air for those looking to buy a new card for under $550.
Aside from performance, factors like availability and actual retail price will also determine how attractive the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB will be in the market. Given Nvidia’s recent launch trends, finding this card at MSRP may not be easy right away. The gaming community will need to carefully consider performance, price, and availability before making a decision.
