According to Portuguese media, Ruben Amorim wants to recruit his former student Morten Hjulmand from Sporting Lisbon to fill the void left by Christian Eriksen.

Ruben Amorim and the Danish midfielder have a good relationship, formed in the summer of 2023.

At that time, Sporting spent 18 million euros on Lecce (Serie A) to sign Hjulmand, just after striker Viktor Gyokeres (21 million euros).

Hjulmand immediately showed he was worth every penny, helping Ruben Amorim develop a dynamic 3-4-2-1.

Sporting regained the championship 2 rounds early in the 2023/24 season with 90 points - the 2nd highest in the history of the Portuguese National Championship, only behind Porto's record of 91 points in the 2021/22 season.

After Ruben Amorim moved to MU, Hjulmand continued to be a pillar to help Sporting CP successfully defend the Primeira Liga championship title.

Now, to upgrade the midfield for the ambition to compete for a high ranking in the Premier League 2025/26, the Portuguese strategist is looking to bring his former student to join Old Trafford.

Hjulmand is expected to strengthen MU's midfield thanks to his good ball-winning and passing skills. The 26-year-old has a lot of experience at the top level and is currently the captain of Sporting.

MU's biggest rival in the competition to get the Danish player is Juventus.

His release clause is set at €80m, but the Red Devils are confident they can negotiate it down.
