The province currently has over 600 hectares of peach trees. Peach trees are not only a familiar symbol of the Lunar New Year but also an important livelihood for many households, concentrated in areas with a tradition of peach cultivation such as the communes of Bac Son, Huu Lung, Cao Loc, and Luong Van Tri ward... As Tet approaches, peach tree care enters a crucial stage, requiring growers to closely monitor weather conditions and flexibly apply technical measures to ensure stable growth and timely flowering.
This year, the weather has been quite favorable for flower bud differentiation; however, there is also a risk of flowers blooming too early or too late if the care regimen is not adjusted in time. Given this reality, many peach growers have proactively covered the base of the trees, maintained proper moisture levels, controlled bud development in each cycle, and regulated the amount of water and fertilizer to prevent the peach blossoms from blooming before Tet (Lunar New Year).
In the peach orchards, meticulous care is taken. Ms. Hoang Thi Van, owner of a peach orchard in Quang Hong Hamlet, Luong Van Tri Ward, said: "My family's peach orchard covers an area of 2,160 square meters with about 600 peach trees, which are cared for in groups. We start stripping the leaves from the beginning of October in the lunar calendar, dividing it into many stages so that the trees bloom uniformly. Beautiful peach blossoms are not only about their shape but, more importantly, the flowers must bloom at the right time, so we have to monitor the weather every day to make timely adjustments."
Besides serving the Tet market, this year, peach tree growers in Lang Son are also placing high hopes on the "Beautiful Peach Blossom Tree of Lang Son – Spring of the Year of the Horse 2026" contest, a highlight within the framework of the Lang Son Peach Blossom Festival and other activities celebrating the Party and the Spring Festival. The contest, organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is expected to be completed before February 7th, 2026 (the 20th day of the 12th lunar month).
According to the Organizing Committee, 48 units have registered to participate so far, with a total of 62 beautiful peach blossom trees selected from many communes and wards in the province. This year's competition is organized with a strict scoring system, a 100-point scale, of which the detailed evaluation accounts for 75 points, focusing on factors such as the trunk, roots, branches, buds, and flowers. This has directly impacted the peach blossom care process of households, as many gardeners have proactively adjusted their technical procedures from the beginning of the season, aiming for peach blossom trees with high aesthetic value.
Mr. Nguyen Dang An, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: The "Beautiful Peach Blossom Tree of Lang Son - Spring of the Year of the Horse 2026" contest is not only an activity to honor the beauty of peach blossoms but also an opportunity to promote the image, cultural identity, and people of Lang Son. Through the contest, the province aims to encourage the preservation and development of peach blossom growing areas, gradually building peach blossoms into a distinctive agricultural, cultural, and tourism product, linked to the development of the local economy , trade, and services.
In traditional peach-growing regions, preparations for the competition are also in full swing. In Bac Son commune, where two peach trees have been selected to participate, Mr. Phuong Anh Tu, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "The peach-growing households are all very excited, considering this a source of pride for the locality. Each peach tree in the competition is not only the result of a family's labor but also represents the image and identity of the commune. Therefore, special attention is paid to its care."
In Tuan Son commune – a typical peach blossom growing area in recent years, Mr. Luong Van Tuyen (Keo village) said: “This year, my family continues to maintain 2 hectares of peach trees with more than 5,000 trees, including seedlings, saplings, and mature trees. By this time, customers have already pre-ordered 95% of the mature trees in the garden. Thanks to the effect of the Peach Blossom Festival and the Beautiful Peach Blossom Garden Contest, my family's peach brand is more widely known, and the number of customers tends to increase steadily every year. This year, my family also selected two peach trees to represent the garden in the contest. These are both old trees with natural shapes and special care. If the warm, sunny weather lasts for a long time, the buds will develop very quickly, so we have to be constantly present in the garden, adjusting the water and nutrients continuously so that the flowers bloom in time for Tet.”
According to the plan, the peach blossom trees for the competition will be gathered from the 17th day of the 12th lunar month. The judging panel will evaluate the entries on the 18th day of the 12th lunar month and award prizes during the opening ceremony of the Spring Flower Street on the 20th day of the 12th lunar month. The winning trees will continue to be displayed for the public and tourists until the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, contributing to the highlight of the province's early year festival.
As Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches, every peach tree in the growing regions of Lang Son is carefully tended and preserved by the people with both experience and dedication. Preserving the beauty of the peach blossoms is not just an economic matter, but also a way for the people of Lang Son to cherish spring and prepare for the vibrant spring festival that is fast approaching.
