For the Xê Đăng people, the rice god is an important deity, revered by the villagers. The villagers believe that each successful harvest, with abundant rice in their fields, is a gift from the god.

Conversely, a failed harvest is considered a punishment from the rice god, a reproach to the villagers. After each harvest, the Xê Đăng people hold a festival to celebrate the new rice crop, worship the spirits, and welcome the spirit of the rice god.

Before the harvest, the Xê Đăng people in Nam Trà My hold a ceremony to celebrate the new rice crop, firstly to give thanks to the forest and mountain spirits, and secondly to share the first grains of rice of the season so that the whole village can enjoy and celebrate together.

During the harvest festival, everyone participates from beginning to end. Men offer sacrifices to the gods, women thresh the rice, men slaughter pigs, women pound the rice; they all enjoy the intoxicating rice wine amidst the fragrant steam of freshly cooked rice.
