Sabalenka received much criticism

This stemmed from her out-of-control statements after her defeat to American opponent Coco Gauff in the final of the French Open (Roland Garros 2025).

After losing 1-2 (7-6, 2-6, 4-6) to Coco Gauff, Belarusian tennis player Sabalenka was not convinced, saying that her defeat was due to "God's will". At the same time, Sabalenka also denied her opponent's talent, declaring: "She won the match not because she played well, but because I made a lot of mistakes".

Sabalenka's comments have angered netizens. They have been attacking her in recent days, calling her "the ugly loser". One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "Sabalenka really showed her weakness after the 2025 Roland Garros final. Her comments were not only rude, but also disrespectful to her opponent."

Legendary American tennis player Chris Evert also criticized Sabalenka, saying: "Sabalenka shouldn't complain. If she was the world No. 1 or No. 2, Sabalenka would know how to play on windy days, spin and both are the same. I think Coco Gauff really adapted to that much better and won."

Sabalenka apologized for her "uncontrolled" comments after the match, writing on Instagram: "I made over 70 unforced errors. So I can't pretend it was a great day for me. But Coco Gauff stepped up and played with composure and confidence and she deserves it."

This is not the first time Sabalenka has shown herself to be out of control. Previously, when she lost 1-2 (3-6, 6-2, 5-7) to American opponent Madison Keys in the final of the 2025 Australian Open, she broke her racket, buried her face in a towel and cried. She then ran off the court while her opponent was celebrating her victory. Not only that, in the locker room, she and her team shocked everyone by "urinating" on the runner-up title.
