This stems from her uncontrolled statements after her defeat to American opponent Coco Gauff in the final of the French Open (Roland Garros 2025).
After her 1-2 defeat (7-6, 2-6, 4-6) against Coco Gauff, Belarusian tennis player Sabalenka expressed her dissatisfaction, saying her loss was "fate." Sabalenka also denied her opponent's talent, stating: "She won the match not because she played brilliantly, but simply because I made so many mistakes."
Sabalenka's statements sparked outrage online, prompting a wave of criticism in recent days, with many calling her an "ugly loser." One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "Sabalenka truly showed her weakness after the 2025 Roland Garros final. Her comments were not only rude but also disrespectful to her opponent."
Legendary American tennis player Chris Evert also criticized Sabalenka, saying: "Sabalenka shouldn't complain. If she were the world number 1 or 2, Sabalenka would know how to play on windy days, with spin, and it's all the same. I think Coco Gauff adapted to that much better and should have won."
Following public criticism, Sabalenka had to apologize for her "uncontrolled" remarks. She wrote on Instagram: "I made over 70 avoidable mistakes. So I can't pretend it was a great day for me. But Coco Gauff went on and played with composure and confidence and she deserved that title."
This isn't the first time Sabalenka has lost control of herself. Previously, after losing 1-2 (3-6, 6-2, 5-7) to American Madison Keys in the 2025 Australian Open final, she smashed her racket, buried her face in a towel, and cried. She then ran off the court while her opponent was celebrating. Furthermore, in the locker room, she and her team shocked everyone by urinating on the runner-up trophy.
