Vehicles carrying import and export goods through Huu Nghi International Border Gate
– In 2023, the trading of goods at the province's border gates took place vigorously and achieved positive results. Accordingly, not only did the import-export turnover through the province's border gates grow strongly compared to the previous year, but the average number of vehicles passing through each day also reached the same level as the years before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Positive results
Huu Nghi International Border Gate is one of the largest land border gates in the country, always bustling and busy. This is evidenced by the number of trucks carrying goods through this border gate during the days before Lunar New Year, which is always bustling. Accordingly, on average, nearly 700 trucks carrying imported and exported goods clear customs every day.
On the eve of the new year, Ms. Ha Thi Kim Dung, Head of the Huu Nghi International Border Gate Customs Branch, happily said: In 2023, the branch completed customs procedures for 5,663 enterprises for all types of import and export with a total turnover of more than 40.3 billion USD, of which, the number of enterprises opening import and export declarations at the branch was 2,857 enterprises, the turnover reached over 2.9 billion USD, an increase of more than 120% compared to 2022; the tax revenue from import and export activities of the branch was also nearly 4.2 trillion VND, an increase of nearly 35% compared to 2022, accounting for about 90% of the total revenue of the entire Lang Son Customs Department.
| In 2023, the total import-export turnover of goods through the province's border gates will reach over 50 billion USD, of which the import-export turnover declared at Lang Son Customs Department will reach nearly 4.8 billion USD, an increase of 56.2% compared to 2022. The province's target in 2024 is that the total import-export turnover of goods through the area (declared at the province's customs agency) will reach 5 billion USD, and the total tax revenue from import-export activities will reach 5,000 billion VND or more. |
Similar to Huu Nghi International Border Gate, on days before Tet, the volume of vehicles carrying agricultural products and fresh fruits imported and exported through Tan Thanh Border Gate reaches 350 - 400 vehicles/day. Tan Thanh is the road border gate with the highest import and export turnover of agricultural products and fruits in the Northern region. Therefore, the closer to Tet, the volume of vehicles carrying agricultural products, especially fresh fruits, through customs clearance increases. In 2023, the import and export turnover of goods through the border gate reached over 1.2 billion USD, an increase of nearly 70% compared to 2022 (accounting for 95% of the turnover of agricultural products and fruits).
Customs officers of Tan Thanh Border Gate Customs Branch inspect and supervise vehicles carrying export goods through the border gate.
In addition to the above two border gates, during the Tet holiday, 5 other border gates in the province are still maintaining smooth customs clearance activities, with efficiency and volume of goods cleared increasing day by day. At times, the number of trucks carrying goods cleared through all 7 border gates per day reached about 1,400 vehicles.
Mr. Dinh Trung Kien, Deputy Director in charge of the Border Gate Management Center, Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone Management Board, said: The number of vehicles carrying goods through the province's border gates at this time is equal to that of 2019 - the time when the COVID-19 epidemic had not yet appeared. This result shows that the mechanisms and policies of the State and the province have created a more open environment for import-export business activities, thereby attracting many import-export enterprises to Lang Son. In addition, the efforts of departments, branches and forces at the border gates in 2023 with the goal of creating the most favorable conditions for import-export enterprises have also contributed significantly to the results in the field of import-export of goods through the province.
The happiest people are the businesses operating in the import-export sector as customs clearance efficiency increases and customs clearance activities through border gates are smooth during the time before Lunar New Year.
Mr. Do Xuan Linh, representative of LTK Lang Son Logistics Co., Ltd., excitedly said: At the end of the year, especially before Tet, the number of contracts for import and export of goods is greater. The support of the authorities at the border gate has helped businesses carry out shipments smoothly, all of the company's import and export shipments are cleared quickly without any problems, which not only helps businesses increase business efficiency but also helps businesses reduce and avoid unnecessary losses.
Correct and accurate solutions
The above results show that the border gates in the province have been and are important border gates helping to connect and carry out trade of goods between Vietnam and China in particular, as well as between ASEAN countries and China in general.
Mr. Hoang Khanh Duy, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Economic Zone, said: In 2023, the border economy will continue to develop, creating a driving force for the province's economic growth. This is demonstrated by the continued investment in the infrastructure of the border economic zone and border gate areas of the province in terms of traffic systems, inter-sectoral offices and official residences of functional forces, ports and warehouses at border gates that are being invested in and expanded, and import-export support services are increasingly focused on development, well meeting the needs of businesses, organizations and individuals importing and exporting through the area. At the same time, exchange and foreign affairs activities between sectors, localities, and functional forces of the two sides (Lang Son, Vietnam - Guangxi, China) are regularly maintained, etc. Thereby, contributing to creating favorable conditions for import and export activities of enterprises, increasing the capacity of customs clearance of goods, attracting more and more import and export enterprises to operate at border gates in the province.
Not only continuing to invest in infrastructure at the border gate area, in recent times, the province has also actively implemented "digitalization" of activities at the border gate and the effective implementation of the Digital Border Gate Platform has brought about a breakthrough, thereby creating a favorable environment for customs clearance of import and export goods. Accordingly, after nearly 2 years of implementing the Digital Border Gate Platform, there are now more than 1,865 enterprises registering accounts on the Digital Border Gate Platform, 100% of vehicles carrying import and export goods are declared online by enterprises before entering the border gate and processed on the Digital Border Gate Platform. In 2023 alone, at Huu Nghi International Border Gate and Tan Thanh Border Gate, there were more than 330 thousand vehicles declared by enterprises on the Digital Border Gate Platform.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dai, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, shared: The results of import and export of goods through the area in recent times have shown many positive signs. To achieve these results, in 2023, the province has had many mechanisms and policies to maximize the potential and advantages of the province to promote import and export activities through the area. Notably, with solutions to create maximum conditions for Vietnamese enterprises and goods exported through the province's border gates, it has helped increase the trade surplus rate. The specific evidence is that the export turnover in 2023 through the area reached nearly 2.75 billion USD, an increase of 166.9% compared to 2022 (imports reached 2.05 billion USD).
With the results of 2023 and the momentum of the first days of the year, it is believed that in 2024, with flexibility in implementing solutions to promote customs clearance of goods through the province's border gates, the import and export turnover of goods through the province's border gates will continue to increase even higher.
