879 books with diverse genres about celebrities, science , literature, history, geography, life skills, English learning, bilingualism... were donated by alumni of the University of Technology - Faculty of Construction, class of 2000, with contributions from the cost and in coordination with the program "Humanitarian Bookshelf" to Bien Gioi Secondary School.

At the book donation ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy - Executive Director of the program "Humanitarian Bookshelf" interacted, asked questions and gave books to students with correct answers; encouraged students to try to read a lot of books to first gain knowledge, then apply the knowledge gained to enrich their homeland.

The world outside is vast and full of interesting things. If you cannot go to many places now, through each page of a book, through the authors, you will discover those wonderful things. The treasure of knowledge is vast and endless; and the only way for us humans to conquer that treasure is to read. Therefore, I hope that you will practice the habit of reading books, sharing your feelings, good books, and updating a lot of useful knowledge” - Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy shared.

Bien Gioi Secondary School was established in 2001 and was recognized as meeting national standards in 2013. The school currently has 8 classes with more than 300 students, functional rooms and a library. According to Principal Vo Thanh Tan, the library was previously located upstairs, which somewhat limited the students' ability to monitor and read.

Recently, the school has used a classroom on the ground floor as a library, so the children come here to read books every day. “In the morning, recess is only about 25 minutes, so not many children come to read; they mainly read books in the afternoon, after finishing 2 classes,” Mr. Tan added.

Volunteer group "Construction Polytechnic Class 2000" gives notebooks to students.

According to the Principal, the school’s library books mainly rely on books sponsored by organizations and units. In 2014, the school received a number of reference books, bookshelves, library software, etc. from Ford Vietnam Group, with a total value of 70 million VND.

Since then, due to the school’s limited budget, the library has been supplemented mainly with textbooks to serve disadvantaged students. In recent times, the school’s Board of Directors has organized many reading activities in the classroom and library for students. However, the number of books is still too small to meet the reading needs of students.

“For a long time, the school has cherished the dream of unlimited reading spaces, where students can freely read many good books on various fields. The rich number of books donated this time will become a valuable source of learning materials for teachers and students of the school; helping to sow the habit of reading and the desire to learn in students, so that in the near future, they can become self-reliant and enrich their homeland with the power of knowledge andeducation ” - Principal Vo Thanh Tan shared.

From the source of books donated by the volunteer group “Construction Polytechnic Class of 2000” and the program “Compassionate Bookshelf”, Mr. Vo Thanh Tan added that in the near future, the school will promote this treasure trove of knowledge through many programs such as: The first fifteen minutes of reading time, A good book every week, Picking flowers of knowledge about books, Book Festival… And there will be gifts to encourage the spirit of students who love to read books every week.

Nguyen Huu Dat, a 6B student, said he loves reading books, from comics to books about history, science, and literature. Dat often reads books online, buys them from bookstores, or reads them in the school library in the afternoons. “Today the library has new books, I really like them. I will be able to read more good books,” Dat said.

Established in 2022, to date, the volunteer group "Construction Polytechnic Class of 2000" has carried out 7 programs to donate "Humanitarian Libraries" to primary, secondary and high schools in remote areas across the country. In addition, the group also sponsored televisions, desktop computers, drilled wells to provide clean water for schools... This is the first time the volunteer group has come to Tay Ninh to donate books.
