Aluminum foil is made from high-purity aluminum, often used to preserve and wrap food when grilling on the stove. Because aluminum foil is waterproof, light-proof, air-proof and waterproof, it will prevent odors, retain moisture and warmth for food, and prevent grease and water from spilling during cooking.

However, not all foods are suitable for preservation in foil. In addition, the use of foil in some kitchen appliances also poses a risk of fire and explosion, which is harmful to health.

Put the foil in the microwave

Many people believe that using aluminum foil in the microwave makes cleaning easier and reduces nutrient loss because the food is sealed. However, this is a misconception.

Aluminum foil is metal so you should not use it directly to bake in the microwave. During the cooking process, the aluminum in the foil will deflect electromagnetic waves, making the food unable to cook and also causing harm to the oven.

In particular, using aluminum foil with a microwave oven can easily clog the vents, causing the temperature to rise, and microwaves cannot penetrate, creating sparks that can easily burn the oven.

If you still want to use aluminum foil in the microwave, be sure to use new aluminum foil with a smooth surface, no wrinkles, no tears, no discoloration. Wrinkled aluminum foil can cause arcing and sparks when used in the microwave.

When using aluminum foil in a microwave, only use a small amount to cover no more than 1/4 of the food surface. At the same time, avoid placing the aluminum foil close to the oven wall to avoid burning. The aluminum foil placed in the microwave should not cover or touch the rack or turntable of the device.

If your microwave has metal shelves or a metal turntable, never use foil containers to store food.

Failure to follow the above safety instructions may result in risks such as food not being able to heat up due to the foil reflecting microwaves, the heat not being able to reach the food, or fire or explosion, unsafe use, or even damage to kitchen equipment.

In addition, users should never put paper bags, plastic bags, or newspapers in the microwave because they can release toxic gases or catch fire under high temperatures in the oven.

Use aluminum foil with acidic foods

Use aluminum foil to wrap leftover food

For foods that have sauce or are prepared in foil, most people leave them in the foil and put them in the refrigerator to preserve them. This habit is convenient, the water does not leak out and it is easy to take away to enjoy hot.

However, the act of wrapping leftover food in foil creates conditions for bacteria to grow and poses a risk of poisoning.

When a hot meal is left at room temperature for more than two hours, bacteria will grow rapidly. Using foil to wrap food poses a similar risk, as it does not completely seal the food from air.

Therefore, with leftover food, families should wait for the food to cool completely, then store it in a sealed container and put it in the refrigerator.
