Sam Altman, the creator of ChatGPT, has officially left OpenAI.

Forbes magazine reported today (November 20) that Sam Altman, the former CEO recently fired by OpenAI, will not be returning to the company. Altman is the creator of the popular ChatGPT application.

Instead, OpenAI's board of directors unanimously agreed to appoint former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear as interim CEO.

The decision put an end to the chaos that began on November 17th, after Altman was unexpectedly fired.

Furthermore, this also puts an end to speculation surrounding the possibility that the board of directors was trying to persuade Altman to return. Previously, investors and a number of key OpenAI employees had pressured the company's board to convince Altman to come back.

News of this was also reported by Bloomberg. According to the report, OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever wrote to employees stating that Altman would not be returning as CEO.

Multiple sources indicate that Greg Brockman, who resigned as chairman and left the OpenAI board of directors on November 17, was planning to raise capital for a new startup with Altman.

On November 18th, executives and key leaders at OpenAI expressed their support for Altman. Among them were CEO Brad Lightcap and CTO Mira Murati.

Absent from the supporters was Sutskever, OpenAI's lead researcher. He was one of the figures who pushed the board to fire Altman.
