Samsung updates One UI 6.1.1 for Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3

Initially, the update was available for the Galaxy S24 series, then expanded to foldable phones and flagships launched in 2023. By the end of September, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 also received this update with many features such as "Sketch to Image" and AI improvements in portrait mode (Portrait AI).

Samsung is now rolling out One UI 6.1.1 to its 2021 foldable phones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3. According to reports from some users on Reddit, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 owners in Europe have received the update, along with the September 2024 security patch. Unfortunately, the 2.2GB XH9 firmware version for the Z Fold 3 does not include the prominent Galaxy AI features found on the Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 5. This means that Z Fold 3 users will not have access to features like "Sketch to Image", "PDF Overlay", and "Instant Slow-mo".

The update brings a number of other notable improvements, however. Specifically, users can use a new way to answer incoming calls, navigate videos more easily with a double-tap on the screen, and an improved Auto Blocker feature with stronger protection against malware and security threats. Additionally, Samsung also highlighted improvements related to the Samsung Health app in the release notes, including more detailed sleep analysis, personalized workout routines, and new health tips.

Another useful multitasking feature is the ability to move the Picture-in-Picture window to split the screen by dragging it to the desired location. While none of the changes are drastic, these improvements should improve the overall Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 user experience.

If you own either of these foldable phones, you can get the latest software update from "Settings > Software update > Download and install." Samsung plans to roll out the update to more countries in the coming days.

One UI 7 will be the next major update for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3

The next major update for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 is One UI 7, based on Android 15. This update promises to bring many new features, smoother animations, and a bunch of other fundamental changes.

Samsung is expected to start beta testing One UI 7 as early as this month, with the official release likely to come in early November. Once One UI 7 is released, Samsung's 2021 foldable devices will continue to receive security patches for another year before reaching the end of their lifecycle.
