At 1:00 a.m. on January 23, Samsung held the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, as usual every year the focus was on the Galaxy S25 Series, especially the Ultra line.

Equipped with advanced multimodal AI agents, the Galaxy S25 series marks the first step in realizing Samsung’s vision to transform the way people interact with their mobile devices and the world around them. In addition, the next-generation Snapdragon® 8 Elite for Galaxy processor also brings the most powerful processing power for Galaxy AI and a superior camera experience thanks to the next-generation ProVisual Engine technology.

The advanced multimodal AI agents on the Galaxy S25 recognize text, voice, images, and videos for a more natural interaction experience. Google's Circle to Search has been improved to make searching on your phone screen faster, more accurate, and more contextual. Circle to Search can now recognize phone numbers, emails, and URLs on the screen, helping users make calls, send emails, or visit websites with just a tap.

With the Galaxy S25 series, users can perform intelligent searches with contextual action suggestions for a more seamless mobile experience. Additionally, the Galaxy S25 makes it easy to switch between apps to take the next step, like sharing a GIF or saving event details.

The Galaxy S25 also features a breakthrough in natural language understanding, making everyday interactions easier. With just a voice command, the device can automatically find a specific photo in the gallery or adjust the font size in the settings.

Simply press and hold the side button to activate Gemini and perform seamless cross-app actions across Samsung and Google apps, as well as third-party apps like Spotify. For example, with just a voice command, you can find your favorite sports team's game schedule and add it to your schedule in the Samsung Calendar app.

These intuitive interactive experiences are further enhanced by integration with popular Galaxy AI tools, helping to improve communication, boost productivity, and unleash creativity. Call Transcript can help record calls and transcribe them into text, then quickly summarize the main points so users don’t miss any important information. Additionally, Writing Assist features such as content summarization or automatic formatting of notes can be performed directly on selected text without switching apps. With Drawing Assist, users can easily unleash their creative potential and bring any idea to life with just a few sketches, text, or commands for images.

Galaxy S25 Ultra

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is still the biggest, best, and most expensive smartphone in the series. It has a 6.9-inch display and more curved edges for a “comfortable grip.” Samsung says it’s the “thinnest, lightest, and most durable Galaxy Ultra device ever,” with a titanium body and Corning’s Gorilla Armor 2 protection, which offers “enhanced drop protection” and scratch resistance.

Unlike the two smaller models, the S25 Ultra's camera sensor has been upgraded: The ultra-wide-angle lens has a resolution of up to 50MP, while last year's S24 Ultra line only had 12MP.

Like its siblings, the S25 Ultra uses a custom Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, allowing the phone to handle multiple AI tasks on-device, while also ensuring better security.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra has 12GB of RAM and comes in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.

Galaxy S25 and S25+

The Galaxy S25 and S25+ have been upgraded to 12GB of RAM (same as the Ultra), up from 8GB on their 2024 predecessors. Combined with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, this RAM helps the phones handle AI features better.

The hardware specs are pretty much the same as the S24 and S24+ models. They still have 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively. However, Samsung's new ProScaler AI engine can upscale images in real time, which can make up for the unchanged specs. Samsung says it can improve image quality by up to 40%.

Internal storage remains unchanged from the S24 series: 128GB or 256GB on the Galaxy S25 and 256GB or 512GB on the Galaxy S25+.

Galaxy AI

With most hardware upgrades (except for the Snapdragon chips) being fairly light this generation, Samsung is focusing heavily on AI features to convince users to spend money on new models. This year, Samsung’s One UI 7 on Android 15 incorporates a “new built-in AI” operating system. The goal is to create a more personalized and contextual AI, rather than just a bunch of isolated tools.

AI plays a central role in the phone's camera features, with the Qualcomm chip helping the device analyze noise better, thereby improving low-light performance. Meanwhile, Audio Eraser is an AI tool that separates audio channels, allowing you to remove unwanted sounds like wind or strangers talking while filming or recording.

Samsung has bundled its new on-device AI tools into a system it calls the “Personal Data Engine.” This multimodal (text, image, video, audio) machine learning engine enables features like “AI Select,” an upgraded version of the popular Smart Select tool. The new version uses AI to scan the screen and suggest contextual actions like creating a GIF from the video you’re watching.

There are also a number of other new features like the Now Bar - the iPhone's answer to Dynamic Island, Drawing Assist, and an upgraded Google Circle to Search (activated by pressing and holding the Home button). This feature can now recognize phone numbers, emails, and URLs, allowing you to trigger corresponding actions with just a tap.

“The greatest innovations always come from real-world consumer needs,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Experience Business at Samsung Electronics. “That’s why we’re upgrading Galaxy AI to make mobile interactions more natural and effortless than ever, while ensuring our users’ privacy. The Galaxy S25 opens the door to the future with an AI-powered operating system that will have a profound impact on how we use technology and live our daily lives.”

The Galaxy S25 Ultra will be available in Titanium Blue, Titanium Black, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Gray. The color options for the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ include: Shadow Silver, Navy Blue, Icy Blue, and Mint Green.

Galaxy S25 series will be open for pre-order from January 23, 2025 to February 13, 2025 with retail prices for the following versions:

One UI 7 operating system opens a 'new chapter' for mobile AI and smartphone interaction One of the most anticipated products at the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event on January 23 is the One UI 7 operating system, which promises to completely change the way users interact with smartphones with artificial intelligence technology.
