On May 28th, in Hanoi , the Central Committee of the Youth Union organized the opening ceremony and launched the 8th English Olympic Competition for Young Cadres, 2026, with the theme "Global Mindset - Vietnamese Identity".
Attending the program were Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, President of the Vietnam Youth Union, and Head of the competition organizing committee; nearly 500 Youth Union members and young people participating in person, along with a large number of Youth Union and Association officials nationwide following online.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam emphasized that, in the context of strong scientific and technological advancements, digital transformation, and globalization, foreign language proficiency, especially English, is not only a tool for accessing knowledge but also a key for young people to expand cooperation opportunities, enhance competitiveness, and affirm the position of Vietnamese youth in the international environment.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam, the country is entering a new stage of development with increasingly high demands for young human resources with professional qualifications, digital skills, global thinking, and flexible adaptability. This places an urgent need on young people, especially young cadres, to continuously learn, improve their foreign language skills and international integration skills to meet the development requirements of the country in the new era.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam, this year's competition was organized to concretize the Youth Union's action program to implement Resolution No. 59 of the Politburo on international integration in the new situation; and at the same time effectively implement the program "Supporting the enhancement of foreign language skills and international integration for Vietnamese youth in the period 2022 - 2030".

Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam cited the direction of General Secretary and President To Lam regarding the need for youth to be the pioneering force in learning, innovation, mastering science and technology, foreign languages, and international integration; while simultaneously preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural identity and values. According to Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam, this is both a major direction for youth work and a requirement for every young official in the country's development and integration journey.
Opportunities to participate in international youth exchange programs.
Held annually since 2019, the English Olympiad for Young Officials has become a prestigious academic platform for young officials nationwide. Over seven editions, the competition has attracted nearly 500,000 participants with over 3.6 million entries. Many young officials have demonstrated strong English skills, modern and integrated thinking, critical thinking abilities, and comprehensive social knowledge.

Building on that success, the 2026 competition continues to be modernized, enhancing the application of digital technology and improving practicality. The competition content will not only focus on English knowledge but also integrate topics related to culture, history, digital transformation, innovation, and international integration. The competition sections are designed to foster contestants' quick thinking, creative problem-solving, presentation skills, and teamwork abilities.
This year's competition is open to young people aged 16-35, divided into three categories: Youth Union and Association officials at all levels; young civil servants, public employees, and workers in state agencies and businesses; and young people in the armed forces. Contestants will go through three rounds: an online multiple-choice test, a video clip competition in English, and a national final round tentatively scheduled for September 2026 in Hanoi.

The organizing committee will award 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and many other prizes including cash, certificates of merit from the Central Youth Union, English scholarships, and opportunities to participate in international youth exchange programs in the 2026-2027 period.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the first round of the competition took place enthusiastically at the Hanoi venue and online venues across the country, creating a great start to this year's competition season.
