This year's event is not only significant in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the official renaming of Saigon - Gia Dinh City after President Ho Chi Minh , but it is even more special as Ho Chi Minh City has just been inscribed by UNESCO into the Creative Cities Network in the field of cinema.
With the theme "Unleashing Young Creativity – Building a Cinematic City," the festival contributes to affirming the city's determination to realize international commitments and build a sustainable creative ecosystem. It is expected to be an ideal launching pad for discovering, nurturing, and developing future cinematic talents.
This year, the organizing committee has expanded the scope of film submissions nationwide across three categories: feature films, documentaries, and animated films. Works are encouraged to be innovative and creative, reflecting the contemporary pulse of life and the positive developments in Vietnamese society.
Over the course of three days, the public and professionals will experience a rich series of activities, ranging from professional to community events. The Opening Ceremony will officially take place on the evening of June 6th, kicking off a series of vibrant short film screenings at cinemas and universities.
To spread a love of art, the "Cinema in Schools" program will also offer video creation competitions, poster design contests, and AI application training for students.
In particular, the highlight of this year's festival is the "HCMC Short Form Film Lab - Nurturing Film Talent," which supports the development of promising short film projects through activities such as: Masterclasses (film creation trends, AI filmmaking techniques, film idea development), Project development lab (one-on-one project consultation), Pitching sessions (presenting projects to the judging panel), and opportunities for film projects to connect with production partners.
This year's festival activities are oriented towards international standards, strengthening connections with film organizations, creative support funds, experts, and foreign film festivals, thereby creating opportunities for young Vietnamese filmmakers to access the global film ecosystem and enhance their capacity in project development, production, distribution, and promotion of their works.
Within the framework of the festival, the "Cinema City" brand identity, part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network , will also be officially launched . This important milestone affirms Ho Chi Minh City's strong progress in developing the cultural industry, transforming cinema into a driving force for economic growth.
