Da Nang tourist train to be launched soon

This idea was proposed by Vice Chairman of Thua Thien - Hue Provincial People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh at a meeting today (November 22) with leaders of Vietnam Railway Corporation.

Mr. Hoang Hai Minh said that Hue city is striving to become a centrally-governed city, developing in the direction of "Ecological, landscape, heritage, cultural, environmentally friendly and smart urban area". In particular, priority is given to developing tourism as a key economic sector. Currently, Thua Thien - Hue province is known as a land of heritage and festivals, attracting many domestic and international tourists. Therefore, organizing a daily tourist train between Da Nang - Hue not only serves tourists but also connects the heritage lands of the Central region.

On the side of Vietnam Railways Corporation , Mr. Dang Sy Manh, Chairman of the Board of Members, said that the railway is currently focusing on effectively exploiting regional trains, while improving the quality of vehicles, service quality and adjusting ticket prices flexibly, exploiting experiential tourism products by rail, which has achieved certain success, receiving high appreciation, interest and support from the public. Therefore, the corporation is ready to accompany Thua Thien - Hue in connecting heritage tourism.

The Hue - Da Nang section includes 12 stations with a length of 102km, of which 3 stations are located on steep passes far from residential areas and 9 stations that can receive passengers: Hue, Huong Thuy, Truoi, Cau Hai, Thua Luu, Lang Co, Kim Lien, Thanh Khe and Da Nang.

Statistics for the first 10 months of 2023 show that the number of passengers traveling by train from Hue to Da Nang was about 74,000, and from Da Nang to Hue was 79,000. The average number of passengers traveling between the two cities is 500 passengers/day. Currently, the railway operates 4 pairs of Thong Nhat trains and a pair of high-quality trains, with pick-up and drop-off operations in Hue and Da Nang.

Train travel time from Hue to Da Nang is about 3.5-4 hours while road travel time is about 2 hours. However, the advantage of rail transport is that it runs into the center of the two cities, making it very convenient for passengers, especially tourists.

Regarding the preparation for organizing the train, General Director of Vietnam Railways Corporation Hoang Gia Khanh said that the corporation is building a plan to soon realize this project, including detailed planning of train schedules and ticket prices, prioritizing running during golden hours, and maximizing the advantages of the railway line that has been voted the most worth experiencing in the world.
