Dak Lak durian proactively says no to banned substances

On the afternoon of June 13, the Department of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the Dak Lak Durian Association to organize a conference to summarize the 2024 durian crop, deploy tasks for 2025 and say no to banned substances in production.

The conference was attended by more than 200 delegates from central agencies, research institutes, provinces, districts, cooperatives, enterprises, packaging facilities, growing areas and quality testing units.

According to the report at the conference, currently the total durian area of ​​Dak Lak is 38,800 hectares, mainly concentrated in key districts such as Krong Pac, Krong Nang, Krong Buk, Cu M'gar, Buon Ma Thuot, Ea H'leo...

Of which, the area for product harvest in 2025 is about 22,600 ha (accounting for 58.25%); expected output is estimated at about 380,000 - 400,000 tons. The main varieties including DONA and Ri6 account for 97% of the area, with the main harvest season from August to October every year.

Up to now, Dak Lak province has 266 growing areas with a total area of ​​nearly 7,400 hectares, accounting for nearly 33% of the harvested durian area and about 74% of the pure durian growing area.

There are 39 fresh durian packaging facilities granted export codes by China and 11 units approved for frozen durian export codes.

Currently, Dak Lak province has 4 districts that have been granted Trademark Registration Certificates by the Department of Intellectual Property: "Krong Pac durian", "Cu M'gar durian", "Krong Nang durian" and "Krong Buk durian". The successful construction and maintenance of the brand for Dak Lak durian is expected to help further enhance the value of this staple crop.

The inspection and supervision of growing area codes and packaging facilities have been strengthened, however, there are still some farming households that do not comply with production processes, do not control well plant quarantine objects such as mealybugs and fruit flies; and do not fully record cultivation diaries. At the conference, the Dak Lak Durian Association launched the movement "Joining hands to build a green bamboo durian export chain - For a safe and sustainable Vietnamese durian industry". Accordingly, along with tightening control of heavy metals, the Dak Lak Durian Association proactively says no to banned substances in agriculture, each garden proactively controls strictly before the goods leave the garden. Apply information technology, transparently trace the origin of each exported durian. Build and replicate at least 15 "green bamboo" production, packaging and export chains, creating a model for the entire industry and spreading throughout growing areas across the country.

In his closing speech at the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Van Ha emphasized the key role of the durian industry in the province's agriculture, and pointed out the urgent need to build a sustainable value chain, ensuring quality and food safety, especially in the context of increasingly strict export markets in terms of standards. Dak Lak must not only produce a lot, but also produce cleanly, safely and responsibly. Only then will Dak Lak durian affirm its position on the international agricultural map.
