According to the program of the 9th Session of the 15th National Assembly, the Law on Teachers is being considered and expected to be passed at this session.

One of the new points in the draft submitted to the National Assembly this time compared to the previous draft is the regulation on summer vacation time for teachers.

If in previous drafts, teachers' annual summer vacation was set at a maximum of 8 weeks, in this draft submitted to the National Assembly, the regulation has changed.

Specifically, Clause 3, Article 18 on the working regime of teachers in the draft being submitted to the National Assembly states: "The annual summer vacation and other holidays of teachers are arranged appropriately for teachers of each grade level, training level and type of educational institution according to Government regulations."

In the old version, it is stipulated: "The maximum annual summer vacation for teachers is 8 weeks and is arranged appropriately for teachers of each grade level, training level and type of educational institution".

Thus, the rigid regulation of “maximum 8 weeks” no longer exists. This adjustment is to avoid overlapping with the Education Law.

Currently, teachers' summer vacation is implemented according to Circular 05 regulating the working regime for general education teachers issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, effective from April 22.

According to the circular, the annual summer vacation for teachers of preschools, general education institutions, and specialized schools is 8 weeks, including annual leave.

Summer vacation for secondary school teachers and college lecturers is 6 weeks. Summer vacation for university lecturers is according to the regulations of organization and operation of the institution.

The summer vacation of the principal and vice principal is flexibly arranged during the school year and during the summer vacation of teachers, in order to maintain the normal operation of the school and promptly carry out tasks summoned by the superior management agency (if any). The summer vacation schedule of the principal and vice principal must be reported to the competent management agency or according to the hierarchy.

Regarding the draft Law on Teachers, in the National Assembly session agenda, on the morning of May 6, Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Social Affairs Nguyen Dac Vinh, on behalf of the National Assembly Standing Committee, reported, explained, accepted and revised a number of contents.
