Students start a business with a project to grow and supply black termite mushrooms

A group of students Nguyen Huu Phuc, Nguyen Vu Gia Linh, Lam Thi Ngoc Tran and Doan Thi My Ha from Lac Hong University recently participated in and won the consolation prize in the 7th Student Startup Ideas Competition (SV-Startup) 2025 organized by the Ministry of Education and Training.

The project that the group brought to this startup playground is Production and commercialization of black termite mushrooms. The idea of ​​the project is to provide fresh black termite mushroom products, mushroom spawn grown from agricultural by-products and transfer mushroom growing technology to customers.

Under the technical guidance of Master Mai Huong Tra, majoring in biotechnology, the group has researched and successfully cultivated black termite mushroom products from agricultural by-products while still ensuring nutritional and medicinal values ​​at a competitive price in the market.

The group’s startup project aims to become a leading supplier of clean, safe and nutritious mushroom products at reasonable prices. With the advice of Dr. Nguyen Van Tan, majoring in business administration, the group sets out a long-term vision, focusing not only on providing high-quality food, but also committing to sustainable development, creating value for consumers, local communities and the environment at the same time.

Accordingly, the project's objectives include improving public health by providing clean, nutritious food products; creating jobs and increasing income for local people by providing mushroom spawn and consuming products; at the same time, utilizing agricultural waste such as sawdust to cultivate mushrooms, minimizing environmental pollution and protecting the ecosystem. The project not only focuses on products, but also builds a reputable brand, contributing to health, economy and sustainable development.

Student Doan Thi My Ha, a member of the project, said that the group has 4 members from the Faculty of International Management and Economics and the Faculty of Food Science and Technology. This is a combination that brings high efficiency to business development and construction. In particular, members of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology ensure that the project has a solid foundation in terms of products, from research and development of production processes to quality and food hygiene and safety. Along with that, knowledge from the Faculty of International Management and Economics helps build effective business strategies, financial management, marketing and market access. From there, a balanced project is created, with both quality products and the ability to do business and develop sustainably in the market.
