On April 25 and 26, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (VNU-HCM) held a graduation ceremony and awarded bachelor's degrees, 260 master's degrees and 11 doctoral degrees to 1,088 students.
The President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology awarded the gold medal to La Nguyen Gia Hy.
At the graduation ceremony, Professor Mai Thanh Phong, Rector of the University of Science and Technology, sent his congratulations and great expectations to the new engineers and bachelors. He emphasized that the young people are entering life at a time when the country is transforming strongly in the digital age, when the Party and State pay special attention to investing in key industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, automation technology, semiconductor technology, etc.
"This is a precious opportunity but also a mission that the young generation needs to shoulder. As future engineers, scientists and managers, you should proactively seize opportunities, promote intelligence and innovation to contribute to the development of the country" - Professor Mai Thanh Phong said.
The leaders of the University of Technology also affirmed that these pioneering technology fields are the strengths in training and research of the school - a place that constantly promotes the aspiration to rise up and integrate globally in each generation of students.
In this graduation ceremony, the University of Technology awarded a gold medal to student La Nguyen Gia Hy, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, who graduated ahead of schedule with excellent grades and a cumulative average score - GPA 4/4.0.
Regarding choosing to pursue a major in AI, Gia Hy said that since childhood, he was attracted by the superior capabilities of AI, especially after learning about AlphaGo (Google's AlphaGo defeated the world's top player in Go, which is considered one of the most complex challenges for computers). The appearance of generative AI models like ChatGPT further aroused his curiosity and desire to learn more. Subjects such as machine learning and introduction to AI have helped Gia Hy consolidate his basic knowledge, clearly identify his passion and long-term orientation in this field.
Talking about the secret to getting good results in university, Gia Hy said that she always proactively studies basic and specialized subjects in advance during the summer break. This helps Gia Hy have more time to review more thoroughly at the end of the semester and spend time on major assignments. With this method, Gia Hy can review knowledge twice: Once during the summer and once before the exam.
"In addition, I spend time reading the textbook carefully to understand the lesson comprehensively instead of just studying through slides. I also proactively find more documents from YouTube and do exams from other schools to broaden my perspective," Gia Hy shared.
In the next 2-3 years, Gia Hy plans to pursue postgraduate programs specializing in AI at universities with research strengths in this field.
