Recently, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students announced the list of students who had registered online but had not yet submitted their applications, as well as those whose applications were deemed invalid as of 5 PM on June 1st. Accordingly, 35 applications were returned for "not meeting the eligibility requirements for the preliminary selection."

Some parents were shocked when their children's report cards for all five years of primary school showed perfect scores, yet they were still rejected in the application review process and not allowed to take the entrance exam for the 6th grade at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students.

The reason is that some subjects assessed by comments are only marked "Completed" and not "Completed well" or "Completed excellently".

In response to this information, a representative from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training stated that the admission criteria for grade 6 at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the 2023-2024 school year have been adjusted to make it more convenient for students.

Because in the previous school year, in order to be eligible to take the entrance exam for grade 6 at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students, students' end-of-year report cards from elementary school had to have achieved the title: "Students who have excellently completed all learning and training content".

When developing this year's admissions plan, listening to and incorporating feedback from teachers and parents, the school has adjusted the admission criteria for the 2023-2024 school year to make it easier for students.

Specifically, the end-of-year report card criteria for elementary school students, instead of "excellently completed," have been adjusted to: "Students have satisfactorily completed all learning and training content" or higher.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, these criteria are based on Circular No. 30/2014/TT-BGDĐT dated August 28, 2014, and Circular No. 22/2016/TT-BGDĐT dated September 22, 2016, of the Ministry of Education and Training, ensuring the selection of students who have comprehensively developed the fundamental elements that lay the foundation for harmonious development of physical and mental health, character, and abilities.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, with these adjustments to the criteria, the number of valid applications has increased significantly compared to previous years.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students was established with the primary mission of training and nurturing talented students for the capital city and the country. The school's junior high school section is where students with intelligence and aptitude are identified for further training and development at higher educational levels.

Every year, the school's admissions process for 6th grade receives considerable attention from the people of Hanoi, requiring the school to make a great effort and carefully study the regulations of the education sector in order to develop reasonable admission criteria, facilitate students, and fulfill the task of identifying and training students with talent, aptitude, and good abilities.

However, representatives from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training also stated that they have directed the school to implement student enrollment and teaching in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the Hanoi Department of Education and Training; and to listen to and incorporate the opinions of parents to further refine criteria in future school years, creating favorable conditions for students while remaining consistent with teaching and assessment guidelines from the Ministry of Education and Training.

According to the admission plan for 6th grade announced by Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students last April, to be eligible to take the entrance exam, students must achieve at least 167 points, meaning they can only have a maximum of 3 scores of 9 throughout their 5 years of primary school, while all other scores must be 10.

For the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students will enroll 5 classes of 6th graders with a total enrollment of 200 students.
