Informing the press this afternoon (July 11), Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hai - Deputy Head of the Waterway Traffic Management Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport - said that he had received information about the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao high-speed ferry route ceasing operations.
In the coming time, the Department will coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Maritime Port Authority to work with businesses to encourage and mobilize businesses to continue operating this ship route to serve the people.
“This is a new form of transportation, it takes time to create people’s travel habits. The company has only been implementing the model for 2 months so it has not been able to evaluate much yet,” Mr. Hai added.
Two days ago, Phu Quoc Expressway Joint Stock Company informed partners and customers about stopping the high-speed ferry route from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao from July 29, after nearly 2 months of operation.
According to the company, the route has not been operated effectively, with the number of passengers per trip reaching less than 50% of capacity. In addition, people have complained about having to travel quite a distance to board the train, making it inconvenient to transfer passengers. Therefore, the company has temporarily suspended the route to consider and find a suitable solution.
In addition, this suspension also allows the company to adjust its business operations during the low tourist season, similar to other operating routes.
