Just a few days after Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge with its impressive ultra-thin design, rumors about Apple's direct competitor - the iPhone Air, expected to launch next September - have made the tech world even more excited.

Can Apple create a thinner and more superior iPhone? The race for thinness in the high-end smartphone market is hotter than ever.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge impresses with its 5.8mm thickness, 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED 2X display and 1-120Hz variable refresh rate, protected by a titanium frame and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air, according to leaked sources, could be even thinner, only 5.5-5.6 mm, with a 6.6-inch M14 OLED screen that is said to be brighter and more durable, along with ProMotion technology.

Both are said to use titanium frames to ensure durability for their slim and light bodies, a vital factor to avoid a repeat of the infamous "Bendgate" incident of 2014. However, the protruding camera cluster will still be an unavoidable feature on both devices.

In terms of photography, the showdown promises plenty of surprises. The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to have a unique horizontal camera “bar” on the back, but it may only house a single 48MP main sensor, capable of providing virtual optical zoom thanks to cropping.

In contrast, the Galaxy S25 Edge has a powerful dual camera cluster with a wide-angle main sensor of up to 200 MP (capable of 2x optical zoom) and a 12 MP ultra-wide camera.

The iPhone Air's front camera is said to be 24 MP, while the Edge features a 12 MP sensor.

Inside, the iPhone 17 Air will likely be equipped with Apple's super-powerful 2nm A19 chip, although the challenge of cooling for a thin design is not small. The Galaxy S25 Edge uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy chip, accompanied by a vapor chamber cooling system.

Both are expected to deeply integrate AI features as the iPhone 17 Air with Apple Intelligence and iOS 19 (to be revealed at WWDC this June), while the S25 Edge has demonstrated its own AI toolkit with Google Gemini support.

But let's be honest, Apple Interligence has been a disappointment. The company was forced to "rebuild" features after misleading summaries angered users.

In terms of battery, the S25 Edge has a capacity of 3,900 mAh, while the battery specifications of the iPhone 17 Air are still unknown. However, there are rumors that Apple will revive the charging case accessory.

While it’s too early to directly compare a product that’s already been released to a device that’s still in the rumor mill, the appearance of the Galaxy S25 Edge certainly gives a clear picture of what Apple might be aiming for. The ultra-thin smartphone war promises to have a lot of interesting things waiting ahead.
