The delegation was led by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Chau - Deputy Director of the Department of Construction. The delegation included leaders of the Waterway Port Authority, the Environmental Protection Department of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, and Thanh Thanh Cong Agricultural Development Joint Stock Company (the unit that carried out the water hyacinth treatment).

The inspection team inspected the river section at the foot of Ben Soi bridge.

The delegation inspected Bang Dung wharf (Phuoc Vinh commune), Ben Soi bridge (border area of Tri Binh and Thanh Long communes) in Chau Thanh district and Huynh Vuong wharf (water hyacinth gathering area after salvage of Thanh Thanh Cong Agricultural Development Joint Stock Company).

At the time of inspection, the section of the Vam Co Dong River at Bang Dung Wharf and Huynh Vuong Wharf was completely empty, without water hyacinth. In the Ben Soi Bridge area alone, water hyacinth covered about half of the river surface, after about 15 minutes, the water hyacinth here decreased to 1/3 of the river surface.

However, according to observations, the riverside area on both sides of Ben Soi bridge has many piles of sand built by local people, which not only narrows the riverbed but also obstructs water hyacinth, causing congestion during low tide.

The situation of people planting water hyacinth to raise fish along the river still exists.

Also during the inspection, representatives of the Environmental Protection Department took water samples and measured environmental indicators on site. The results showed that the water quality at the sampling points still met the prescribed quality standards.

The section of the Vam Co Dong River at Huynh Vuong wharf is completely empty of water hyacinth.

Representative of the water hyacinth treatment unit, Mr. Huynh Long Dinh - Deputy Director of Thanh Thanh Cong Agricultural Development Joint Stock Company said that up to now, the amount of water hyacinth on the Vam Co Dong River has decreased significantly, only some curved and zigzag river sections remain, the unit is focusing on machinery and equipment to treat water hyacinth here.

Environmental Protection Department staff took water samples to test quality.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Chau - Deputy Director of the Department of Construction said that the water hyacinth situation on the Vam Co Dong River has gradually decreased in recent years. However, the situation of water hyacinth growing heavily and densely still exists at some times in certain sections of the river. Therefore, to ensure the circulation of people and vehicles, the Department of Construction has continuously urged the construction unit to focus on handling large water hyacinths in sections that are frequently clogged.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Nguyen Ngoc Chau, after the inspection, the Department found that the water hyacinth treatment has achieved good results. Currently, the Huynh Vuong and Bang Dung wharf areas are almost free of water hyacinth. In the coming time, the Department of Construction will continue to direct the construction unit to completely handle the remaining water hyacinth areas on the Vam Co Dong River.
