Soc Trang - Aspiration to reach further

STO - On the evening of November 25th, at Bach Dang Square, the People's Committee of Soc Trang province solemnly organized the opening ceremony of the Ooc om boc Festival - Soc Trang Province Ngo Boat Race 2023, with the theme "Soc Trang - Aspiration to Reach Further".

Attendees included: Nguyen Tan Quyen - former Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, former Deputy Head of the Central Inspection Committee , former Secretary of the Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee; Son Phuoc Hoan - former Deputy Minister, Deputy Head of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities; Ho Thi Cam Dao - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Tran Van Lau - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Vo Chi Cong - Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Organization Department; Duong Sa Kha - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province; former provincial leaders from various periods; members and former members of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee; the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province; leaders of departments and bureaus; representatives from the Central Propaganda Department, the Committee for Ethnic Minorities, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Leaders of the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Ethnic Affairs Committees of provinces and cities; esteemed Venerable Monks, Senior Monks, Heroes of the Armed Forces, and Heroes of Labor during the Renovation Period.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Huynh Thi Diem Ngoc, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, emphasized: “This is the biggest cultural event of the year and also an annual activity, which has long become a cultural product and festival bearing the distinctive cultural identity of the Khmer people of Soc Trang province. For many years, once a year, the Ooc om boc Festival - Ngo boat race of Soc Trang province, whether organized at the provincial or regional level, has always been an activity deeply rooted in the traditional culture of the Khmer people of Southern Vietnam in general and Soc Trang province in particular, attracting the attention and anticipation of many people and tourists from inside and outside the province.”

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed his hope that, at this festival, in addition to continuing to preserve and promote the fine traditional cultural values of the Khmer people and strengthening the solidarity among ethnic groups for mutual development, Soc Trang province expects that the activities within the framework of the festival will leave a positive impression on delegates and visitors from near and far, through cultural exchange, trade connections, and tourism promotion, so that everyone can better understand and love the land and people of Soc Trang. He also hopes that domestic and foreign businesses and investors will come to Soc Trang to seek investment opportunities and cooperate for development.

On this occasion, representatives of the Vietnam Record Organization Council - VietKings Vietnam Records presented the decision and certificate for establishing the Vietnam Record for the largest mosaic painting in Vietnam depicting the theme of "Rice Plants of Soc Trang Then and Now," made from ST25 rice, and expressed gratitude to the sponsor.

Following the ceremony, delegates enjoyed an artistic program themed "Happy Moon Season," consisting of two parts: Part 1 - Happy Moon Season, expressing the joy and happiness of the Khmer people and other ethnic communities in the province during the Oóc om bóc festival - Ngo boat race; Part 2 - Towards the Future, expressing aspirations and belief in a prosperous, beautiful, and happy Soc Trang.
