The trend of eliminating charging accessories started in 2020, when Apple launched the iPhone 12. This was the company's first phone model that did not include a charger. Apple explained that most users already own a USB charger, so eliminating the accessory saves resources, reduces e-waste, and limits the impact on the environment.
After that, many big manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi or Google also did the same thing.
Now, companies are also preparing to remove the charging cable when selling new phones. On the Linus Tech Tips forum, a user named Brick_Fish shared an image of a Sony Xperia 10 VII without a charger or USB cable in the box. The logo printed on the box also confirmed this information.
Although Sony is no longer a "big player" in the smartphone market, its move could start a new trend in the industry.

After years of USB-C becoming the standard, users now have many reusable charging cables. Not including accessories is a way to reduce e-waste and save on packaging materials.
Apple is even one step ahead. Currently, the two latest models of headphones, AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3, no longer include a charging cable. However, Sony is the first manufacturer on record to remove the charging cable from the smartphone box.
Environmental considerations may not be the only motivation, though. Cutting back on accessories could save companies money on shipping and manufacturing costs. Even if it’s just a few dollars per unit, the savings add up over millions of devices sold. It could also boost sales of genuine accessories.
Some forum users say that not including a cable could force consumers to buy additional cables from outside, sometimes of poor quality, with potential risks of damage or safety.
