According to Neowin , The Wall Street Journal has reported on a deal for Rovio Entertainment, the studio behind the Angry Birds game, to be acquired by Sega for an estimated $1 billion.
Version The original Angry Birds was released in 2009 on both iOS and Android, and was a huge success, becoming the first franchise to be downloaded 1 billion times and spawning a franchise that included spin-offs and movies. However, in recent years, Rovio has struggled to replicate the success of the original.
SEGA is about to acquire Rovio for 1 billion USD
The original Angry Birds has gone through trials and changes over the years as Rovio has sought to increase revenue from newer games, such as supporting in-app purchases that are quite common in modern mobile games.
In late 2017, Rovio announced its intention to become a publicly traded company in an effort to accelerate its growth plans. However, this did not yield the expected success, leading to the company being forced to sell its shares to other companies.
Rovio had previously been in talks to sell itself to mobile gaming giant Playtika Holding Corp. for more than $800 million. However, talks between the two companies broke down in March this year.
