During the first days of the National Day holiday on September 2, cinemas in Hanoi became ideal destinations for many people in the capital.
However, according to Lao Dong's records on the evening of September 1, although it was the same time slot, there was a clear difference in the number of moviegoers at different theaters.
BHD Star Vincom Pham Ngoc Thach Cinema is always crowded, especially during peak hours - the evening time, from 6pm to 11pm, the atmosphere is even more bustling.
Moviegoers are mainly young people, students, in groups or couples.
The waiting area is always full, many people have to stand to wait for the movie time.
Ticket counter staff, ticket inspectors and staff in the snack and water area are working at full capacity.
In addition, the elevator area to the 8th floor (cinema) or from the 8th floor to the lower floors also witnessed overload and crowding. Moviegoers had to queue and wait 3-5 minutes to get on the elevator.
Explaining why she chose BHD Star Vincom Pham Ngoc Thach cinema instead of other establishments, Le Trang Linh (Thanh Xuan district) shared: "This cinema has many promotional programs and discounts on movie tickets. I booked tickets online through a third-party application, e-wallet, which is a partner of the cinema, so the ticket price was almost only about half of the original price."
Meanwhile, Hoang Thi Tu (Dong Da district) chose it because of its geographical location: "I chose this cinema because it is located in the center, and also in a shopping mall, so after watching the movie, my friends and I can go out to eat and shop."
However, although also located in a commercial center, the CGV cinema at Vincom Nguyen Chi Thanh has fewer customers.
Some ticket sales areas had to close their counters early, and the ticket queuing area, waiting area... also did not record overcrowding.
The audience coming to see movies at this facility is mostly young people and families with small children.
Mr. Doan Cong Truong (Dong Da District) shared the reason for taking his family to watch a movie at CGV theater in Vincom Nguyen Chi Thanh: "Because the theater is near my house, I chose to take my whole family to watch a movie. It's rare for the whole family to have a chance to go out together."
According to Mr. Truong, he is not too concerned about promotions and discounts... while these are important reasons for young people to choose a place to watch movies.
Regarding public cinemas, the National Cinema Center on Lang Ha Street also recorded a similar situation.
Although it was invested in and lavishly decorated with flags and flowers on the occasion of National Day 2.9 and check-in corners with the theme of Mid-Autumn Festival, photo booth areas based on "hit" movies such as "Getting Rich with Ghosts", "Hai Muoi"..., the number of visitors here - even at the peak time of the day - is not too large.
Also according to Lao Dong, the most popular movies this holiday season are "Getting Rich with Ghosts", "Hai Muoi", "Ma Da"... The common point and also the attraction of these movies lies in the gathering of veteran actors with famous names such as: Hoai Linh, Le Giang ("Getting Rich with Ghosts"), Quyen Linh ("Hai Muoi"), Viet Huong ("Ma Da")...
According to data from Box Office Vietnam - an independent box office observer, the top three positions in daily revenue are "Getting Rich with Ghosts" (about 11 billion VND with more than 2.7 thousand screenings), "Hai Muoi" (about 5.9 billion VND with more than 2.3 thousand screenings), "Ma Da" (about 2.2 billion VND with 935 screenings).
Next are foreign animated works such as "Shin Chan Buu: Our Dinosaur Diary", "200% Soi Banh"... Although they are weaker, these films still maintain revenue at over 1 billion VND.
Meanwhile, international blockbusters such as "Emotional Puzzle Part 2", "Hellboy: The Last Jedi", "Deadpool & Wolverine"... have shown signs of cooling down this holiday season.
