* Previously (evening of June 9), the historical drama performance night also introduced to the public two excerpts from the plays "Love is to escape crime" and "The Sky Boy" at the Intercultural Meeting Point - Lan Vien Co Tich 2 (Bach Dang Street, Hue City).
“Love is escape from crime” by playwright Le Chi Trung is a play that tells the tragedy of the life of the cultural celebrity and mandarin Nguyen Trai. This is a topic that has been exploited and brought to the stage by many people, but the author writes the work from a new perspective. The tragedy of the famous Nguyen family is explained from a humanistic perspective.
The author does not exploit dramatic stories or political tricks, but instead depicts the characters' loneliness in the face of current events: loneliness in the battle between good and evil and the price to pay in turbulent times.
Excerpt from scene 3 of the play performed at the Intercultural Meeting Point brought to viewers messages about the relationships between parents and children, between teachers and students, between upright people and deceitful people. The lessons, although 8 centuries old, are still relevant to the times.
“The Boy of Heaven” is also a work by screenwriter Le Chi Trung, telling the story of the boy of heaven Dang Mau Lan, the younger brother of the imperial concubine Dang Thi Hue, the most favored concubine of Lord Trinh Sam. Taking advantage of the situation when the lord was seriously ill and the ministers were fighting for power in chaos, Dang Mau Lan committed many heinous crimes.
According to Hoang Le Nhat Thong Chi, the Dang Mau Lan case was one of the most shocking cases. Dang Mau Lan's crimes against innocent people were countless, most notably killing court officials and disrespecting the king's daughter.
However, Lord Trinh Sam pardoned the royal concubine Dang Thi Hue and her younger brother Dang Mau Lan. The failure to prosecute Dang Mau Lan was perhaps an outrage for those who believed in justice, and it also sounded an alarm bell for all contemporary societies.
Both excerpts won silver medals at the 2023 National Festival of Dramatic Art Excerpts.
