Some notable new species include the ghost shark in Australia, symbiotic worms in Japan's underwater volcanic regions, and an as-yet-unnamed Mediterranean shrimp species.

Several new species were discovered during the "Ocean Census" ocean exploration mission.
Dr. Michelle Taylor, a researcher on the "Ocean Census Mission," stated that many species are at risk of disappearing before humans even have a chance to record their existence. She emphasized that humanity is in a race against time to study, better understand, and conserve marine life.
Typically, it takes scientists about 13 years to identify a new species from the time of discovery, leaving many organisms at risk of extinction before they are even named.

The NOVA system helps shorten the time it takes to identify new species from 13 years to just a few days to a few weeks.
To address this problem, the NOVA open data system was created, allowing a network of more than 1,400 scientists worldwide to digitize and publish information about new species in just weeks, or even days.
