The Glazers are rumoured to be looking to sell Manchester United again. |
On X , Turki Al-Sheikh - a powerful figure in Saudi Arabia's sports and entertainment sector, and close to the royal family, wrote: "Manchester United is in advanced negotiations to sell to a new investor. Hopefully they will be better than the current owners."
The post immediately caused a stir, leading many to believe that the transfer of ownership of the club could be nearing completion. Several figures in the Saudi royal family, including Prince Saud Mishal, also responded to the post, further fueling the public opinion.
In The Athletic 's Talk of the Devils podcast, journalist Andy Mitten, a writer with inside knowledge of MU, expressed skepticism: "I have not seen any evidence of this investment. Many people have said the same thing and then had to retract it. MU has no reason to call the press to confirm it."
Mitten brought up the old story, when former player Rio Ferdinand once falsely claimed that "MU is about to be bought by Qatar. "It is a typical example of how rumors can spread just because of an unverified statement," he concluded.
Meanwhile, according to Daily Mail , an investment group from the UAE is seriously considering the possibility of submitting an offer to buy MU. The source also said that the group of investors has contacted a number of former "Red Devils" players to invite them to be ambassadors for the project, if the deal is successful.
The Glazers have remained silent. Although there has been no official confirmation, the new wave of speculation shows that the change of ownership at Old Trafford is still the hottest topic in English football.
