Tran Van Bay Street was deeply flooded after the rain in early October.

On the route, many sections of the asphalt are peeling off, and there are many potholes; in the rainy season, the water reaches almost half the wheel, and people have to dump rocks and patch them up themselves to get around. Ms. Tran Thi Kim Phuong said: “The road is so badly degraded, every house has to patch it up in front of their house to get around. We are willing to donate land, just hoping for a new, cleaner, safer road.”

According to Mr. Tran Van Ut, Head of the People's Committee of Area 19, previously, Soc Trang City (old) had a plan to upgrade and widen the road and had sent officials to inspect, measure and collect people's opinions. The majority of people here agreed with the road widening plan.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Tran Van Nhanh, Chairman of Phu Loi Ward People's Committee, informed: "Previously, Soc Trang City (old) had a plan for the State and the people to jointly expand and upgrade the road (State invested, people donated land - PV) but because some households did not agree, it was temporarily suspended. Besides, up to now, the funding source to upgrade and expand this road is not available; the ward hopes that the city will pay attention and support so that the project can be implemented soon."
