On the afternoon of December 4, in Can Tho City, the People's Committee of Can Tho City coordinated with Can Tho University, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam, AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd. and Takesho Foods Vietnam Co., Ltd. to organize the Vietnam - Japan Business Connection Forum with the theme "Exploiting the potential of goods in the Mekong Delta region". Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, attended the forum.

Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, delivered the opening speech of the forum.

This is a three-way cooperation forum of “government - enterprises - institutes” to strengthen connections and promote substantive cooperation between state management agencies, training and research institutions and the Vietnamese business community. The forum is of great significance, serving as a direct bridge for businesses of the two countries to learn, exchange experiences, and promote cooperation, especially in exploiting the rich and high-quality goods resources of the Mekong Delta, bringing Vietnamese products further into the international market.

Speaking at the opening of the forum, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the valuable support from Japanese organizations such as JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) in improving urban management capacity and human resource development, as well as Japanese investors operating in Can Tho.

City leaders presented souvenirs to the organizing units.

Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen said that the goods of the Mekong Delta, from agricultural products, aquatic products to processed products, have great potential to meet the strict standards of the Japanese market. However, the results of investment and cooperation with Japanese partners are still not as expected and not commensurate with the potential that the region has. He believes that through the forum, many successful trade transactions and investment projects will open up. Japanese and Vietnamese enterprises will exchange, learn, and create results of 3-party cooperation (government - enterprises - institutes) for "Made in Mekong Delta" products in the near future, together "exploiting the great potential" of the Mekong Delta region.

“We recognize the need to attract investment capital, advanced technology, and modern management experience from Japan to increase the added value of goods in the Mekong Delta. In the context of rapid globalization and climate change, "exploiting the potential of goods in the Mekong Delta" does not stop at increasing output, but is a fundamental transformation process: from traditional agriculture to smart agriculture, from raw exports to deep processing, and from single supply chains to sustainable, environmentally friendly value chains. We believe that the key to unlocking the full potential of abundant goods from this "rice granary, fruit granary" is the strategic companionship of Japanese partners - a leading country in technology, quality management, and green standards. Can Tho City leaders pledged to continue improving the investment and business environment, creating all favorable conditions and maximum support in administrative procedures, land, and human resources for Japanese enterprises. "Please feel secure in investing, developing production and business in Can Tho in particular and the Mekong Delta in general" - Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen sent a message to Japanese partners.

Mr. Toshinao Tanaka, President of Takesho Company, Japan, spoke at the forum.

At the forum, representatives of Can Tho University, AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd., Takesho Japan Company, representatives of JICA, JETRO in Vietnam presented reports with the following contents: Promoting the role and resources of Can Tho University in connection, cooperation and development between the State - School - Enterprises; ideas and criteria of "Made in Mekong Products"; Product orientation of Takesho Company: based on agricultural and aquatic raw materials in the Mekong Delta; Promoting connection of Japanese enterprises for sustainable development of the Mekong Delta, cooperation needs of Japanese enterprises with Vietnamese enterprises.

After the reporting sessions, the forum also held two discussion sessions with the topics: “The wishes of Japanese enterprises when investing in the Mekong Delta” and “Made in Mekong products: Developing TOPVALU brand products”. The contents of the forum brought many rich perspectives, valuable information and especially practical directions to promote cooperation between the government, institutes - schools and business communities of the two countries in the coming time.
