Promoting potential and advantages

This is not only an orientation for a term but also a reshaping of the role and position of An Giang in the new development space of the Southwest region and in the overall national development strategy. From a purely agricultural province located deep inland, An Giang now possesses a complete development axis of the delta, border, sea and islands, with over 200km of coastline, more than 63,000km2 of sea area, nearly 150km of border with Cambodia, and an island system and Phu Quoc special economic zone of international stature.

The expanded geographical space is also an opportunity. On that basis, the province is gradually repositioning its role, from a locality mainly producing agriculture to a comprehensive economic center, converging high-tech agriculture, marine economy, logistics services, border trade and eco-tourism, sea and island. “Phu Quoc Special Zone plays a core role, a breakthrough growth pole. This is an international tourism center, where large-scale projects on trade, finance, sea tourism, and strategic infrastructure projects for the APEC 2027 Summit Week converge. Hosting APEC is not only a major diplomatic event but also a historic opportunity for An Giang to enhance its image, raise infrastructure standards, improve service quality and urban management capacity according to international standards,” said Central Party Committee member and Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai.

Not only Phu Quoc, coastal cities such as Rach Gia and Ha Tien are also oriented to become administrative, commercial, service and logistics centers of the West Sea, organically connecting with the core area of the Long Xuyen Quadrangle, Chau Doc and the border area. A new development dynamic axis is gradually taking shape, connecting the delta, border and sea, islands, creating a continuous, multi-layered, multi-sector economic flow. "Regarding infrastructure, An Giang is implementing a strategy of taking public investment to lead private investment, prioritizing projects with spillover effects on traffic and logistics. The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway and coastal connecting axes and border corridors play an important role in expanding development space and connecting An Giang with the Southern key economic region and the international seaport system", emphasized the Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung.

At the same time, the province focuses on developing seaports, airports, renewable energy and digital infrastructure, creating a foundation for the marine economy, processing industry, international trade and high-quality tourism. From a traditional "rice granary", An Giang is gradually shifting to a new "value center" model, where agricultural, aquatic, service, tourism and blue economy value chains converge and spread. Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan commented: "An Giang not only needs to grow rapidly, but more importantly, it needs to grow based on a foundation of knowledge, science, technology and innovation to create high value-added products."

Raising political determination

Advantages only become reality when led by a strong and consistent political will. General Secretary To Lam's direction has set out a very clear requirement: An Giang must turn aspirations into actions, turn strategic visions into specific and synchronous programs and plans from the provincial to grassroots levels. To become the new growth pole of the region, An Giang must dare to think big, do big, dare to make breakthroughs in development thinking, management institutions and economic models. This is not just growth in numbers but also the process of reorganizing development space, restructuring the economy in a modern direction, taking the marine economy, services and processing industry as spearheads; developing high-tech agriculture according to the value chain; gradually forming a green economy, a circular economy, a digital economy.

Along with that, science, technology, innovation and digital transformation must become new growth drivers. From urban governance, coastal management, aquaculture, to tourism, logistics, trade, all must be digitalized and modernized to improve labor productivity and competitiveness of the local economy. "From the strategic vision of the Central Government, the drastic participation of the Provincial Party Committee, the government to the consensus of the people and the business community, An Giang is facing a historic opportunity to break through. We are determined to work with the government to implement the direction of General Secretary To Lam", Mr. Doan Toi - General Director of Nam Viet Group, Long Xuyen ward affirmed.

Political determination must also be demonstrated by a clean, strong, and effectively operating administrative apparatus, with a team of cadres at all levels who are courageous, dare to innovate, dare to take responsibility, are close to the people, and work for the benefit of the people. With strategic vision, political determination, and consensus of the entire political system and the people, An Giang is entering a new period of development, with the position of a province opening to the sea, playing an increasingly important role in the development strategy of the Southwest region and the national marine economy.
