Brightening the tradition of the armed forces of Military Region 9

Dong Hung commune used to be a base of Military Region 9 during the resistance war against the US to save the country. In a series of gratitude activities, the medical team and doctors from Military Hospital 121 came to examine and provide free medicine to the people of Dong Hung commune. The commune People's Committee headquarters was packed with people. Mr. Huynh Van Nghia, 76 years old, shared: "The doctor examined carefully and talked nicely. I am very happy to receive such care."

The joy of Dong Hung people was multiplied when on November 27, the Party Committee and the Military Region 9 Command inaugurated the Chu Vang Canal Bridge, connecting Ngoc Hien Hamlet and Ngoc Thanh Hamlet. The bridge was built with reinforced concrete structure, 21m long, 3.5m wide, with a total investment of 500 million VND. Uncle Ho's soldiers and the people walked shoulder to shoulder on the bridge in joy. Mr. Bui Hai Son, a local resident, said: "The bridge was built to help people escape the situation of having to rely on ferries, the happiest thing is that the children go to school more safely." Standing on the bridge, looking at the water shimmering in the sun, the people said that this bridge is like a strong handshake between the armed forces of Military Region 9 and the people of Dong Hung commune, making the relationship between the army and the people even closer.

Also on this occasion, in Dong Hung commune, Military Region 9 handed over the construction and installation of 77 solar lamp posts, 2.3km long, with a total cost of over 246 million VND. At the same time, 5 solidarity houses, 2 comradeship houses were handed over and 1 house was repaired for a Vietnamese Heroic Mother; 20 bicycles were given to students in difficult circumstances; 30 gifts were given to policy families, with a total value of over 2 billion VND.

In Ngoc Hien hamlet, Dong Hung commune, Mrs. Huynh Thi Em was happy to receive her house on this occasion. She said: “The old house was leaky and got wet during the rainy season. When I heard that Military Region 9 was supporting me to build a house, I was so happy I couldn’t sleep. In the morning, I stood waiting for the soldiers to return.” Not only Mrs. Em’s house, but also the households that received the house support were moved because they not only had a place to shelter from the rain and sun, but also felt warmed by the close relationship between the army and the people.

In 2025, Military Region 9 will complete and hand over 1,892 houses, along with a series of civil works in base areas and disadvantaged areas. Major General Huynh Van Ngon - Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 9 said that the handed over works demonstrate the care of the Party, State, Army in general and the armed forces of Military Region 9 in particular for the people at the combat base of Military Region 9 during the resistance war. Thereby, contributing to socio -economic development, consolidating national defense potential, strengthening the relationship, solidarity and blood ties between the army and the people. "This is one of the activities towards the 80th anniversary of the founding of the armed forces of Military Region 9 (December 10, 1945 - December 10, 2025), effectively implementing the policy of gratitude, remembering the source of water, strengthening the relationship and solidarity between the army and the people", said Major General Huynh Van Ngon.

Military Region 9 is currently stationed in 5 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region, including Can Tho City, Ca Mau Province, An Giang , Dong Thap and Vinh Long. After 80 years of building, fighting and growing, the armed forces of Military Region 9 have continuously grown, achieved many glorious feats, and are always united with the people.
