According to Wccftech, one of the most notable specifications of the Nintendo Switch 2 is the support for advanced visual technologies such as HDR and VRR. However, a new update on Nintendo's official website in the US and Canada has unexpectedly removed information about VRR when the device is operating in docked mode, raising questions about this feature on the official version.
VRR is a feature that smooths out the display expected on the Switch 2, which was missing on the original Switch, but now may not appear when connecting the device to a TV.

Previously, the product descriptions on both websites stated: “Enjoy detailed images in up to 4K resolution when connecting Nintendo Switch 2 to a compatible TV via the included dock. The system also supports HDR, VRR, and frame rates up to 120 fps on compatible TVs.” However, the current description has been revised to: “Enjoy detailed images in up to 4K resolution when connecting Nintendo Switch 2 to a compatible TV via the included dock. The system also supports HDR and frame rates up to 120 fps on compatible TVs.”
Notably, the UK version of the site retains the same content, including information about VRR, leading to skepticism from the user community and analysts. Currently, there is no official response from Nintendo about this change.
The lack of VRR support when playing in docked mode, if confirmed, could impact the user experience, especially when playing at 4K resolution – where VRR helps synchronize frame rates, reducing tearing and stuttering. One technical hypothesis is that VRR may be incompatible when converting signals from DisplayPort 1.4 (on handheld devices) to HDMI (on docks connected to TVs).
However, the Switch 2's handheld mode appears to retain VRR support thanks to the integration of Nvidia G-SYNC technology via an internal DisplayPort connection.
Another point of contention regarding the Switch 2 is that the two hit titles The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will not support cloud data backup, which is available to users of the premium Nintendo Switch Online service. While players will still be able to transfer save data from their old Switch device, they will not be able to create new cloud backups for these two games.
The change in technical specifications on official platforms has raised questions about the stability and transparency of the upcoming product. Inconsistencies between regional websites also add to the lack of clarity, especially as the Switch 2's official release date approaches.
