Recently, "The Sun" reported that Leonardo DiCaprio, a famous Hollywood star, is facing new challenges in the field of business investment.
Accordingly, the "Titanic" actor has poured a significant amount of money into Wild Loci, an environmentally friendly shoe brand based in London.
Wild Loci, founded in 2021, makes sneakers from sustainable materials like bamboo and recycled plastic. Priced between $155 and $220 a pair, the brand has attracted the attention of celebrities including actress Lily James and Princess Eugenie.
However, recent financial reports show that Wild Loci is in trouble.
The company reported a loss of more than $3.4 million (about VND86 trillion) in its report ending in April 2023, a significant increase compared to the previous year's loss of $1.2 million (about VND30.3 trillion).
Previously, Leonardo DiCaprio was said to have invested 3.86 million USD (about 97.7 trillion VND) in this brand.
Emmanuel Eribo, co-founder of Wild Loci, expressed optimism about the company's future, stressing that the brand's goal is not only to make a profit, but also to contribute to environmental projects and support young artists.
However, this investment also sparked controversy about DiCaprio's lifestyle.
Accordingly, the actor publicly supports environmental protection activities on one hand, and flaunts his lavish lifestyle on the other hand, especially his frequent use of private jets.
In 2016, DiCaprio caused controversy when he flew 13,000km on a private jet to receive an award for environmental protection.
More recently, in 2023, he was criticized again when he flew a total of 19,300km in 2 weeks to travel and attend fashion events.
Despite this, DiCaprio continues his charitable and environmental work. He founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998 and serves on the boards of several prestigious environmental organizations.
