Less than 2km, cost nearly 40,000 VND

Reporting to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. HN, a driver living in Ho Chi Minh City, said that during the recent April 30 holiday, he took his family to Dong Nai . To avoid traffic jams, he turned into the exit at intersection 319 to go to Ben Cam intersection (Nhon Trach district).

However, after passing the station, the automatic toll collection application on the phone reported deducting the fee twice, 39,000 VND for BOT station 319 and 31,500 VND for the Long Phuoc - 319 expressway section.

"I only went a short distance, but was charged nearly 70,000 VND. The 319 connecting section is only about 2km long, but the fee is 39,000 VND, which is unreasonable. Going further to Long Thanh is cheaper," said Mr. N.

Some other drivers also said that if they do not need to turn into Nhon Trach, they will continue to Long Thanh intersection because the toll will be lower.

Many taxi drivers also complained that they did not understand why they had to pay twice for a short distance.

Why was I charged twice?

Route 319 connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to Ben Cam (Nhon Trach District) is about 9.46km long, expected to help shorten the distance from Nhon Trach to Ho Chi Minh City and reduce the load on National Highway 51.

However, according to people's feedback, turning onto this road is charged twice, making many people surprised and upset.

Regarding the above reflection, a representative of Vietnam Expressway Engineering Services Joint Stock Company (VECE) - the expressway management unit - said that toll station 319 is currently both an open station of the BOT project on road 319 and an exit point in a closed station on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway.

Notably, this road section is managed by two BOT investors. Therefore, when vehicles take a card at Long Phuoc station and then turn off at branch 319, the system will record and charge two separate transactions. One toll collection for the Long Phuoc - 319 expressway section and one toll collection for road section 319.

Charging drivers twice for a short trip at a high rate is causing frustration among drivers. Many believe that the toll method needs to be reconsidered, especially in the context of routes that are expected to help reduce traffic and make life easier for people.

"Toll collection is necessary, but it also needs to be clear, transparent and reasonable. Otherwise, people will find themselves being overcharged," said a driver.
