According to Article 64 of the 2024 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, the driving time of car drivers must not exceed 10 hours per day and 48 hours per week. In particular, continuous driving must not exceed 4 hours. This regulation aims to ensure drivers have sufficient rest time to recover their health and maintain concentration while driving, avoiding prolonged fatigue that could lead to traffic accidents.
Compared to the 2008 Road Traffic Law, the 2024 Law on Traffic Safety and Order retains the regulations on driving time but adds more specific provisions regarding drivers' working hours. This helps protect workers from overwork while strengthening the responsibility of transport companies in complying with legal regulations.

Transport businesses and drivers are responsible for strictly complying with these regulations. Violations may result in severe penalties, ranging from administrative fines to revocation of business licenses.
In addition to regulations on working hours, the 2024 Traffic Safety Law also includes notable changes regarding the age limit for drivers, especially for drivers of large passenger vehicles. The maximum age for drivers of vehicles with more than 29 seats, including buses and sleeper buses, has been raised.
Specifically, male drivers are now allowed to drive until the age of 57, while female drivers are allowed to drive until the age of 55, an increase of 2 years for men and 5 years for women respectively compared to previous regulations.
Raising the maximum age aims to allow older drivers to continue working if they meet the health requirements. This also reflects flexibility in workforce utilization while ensuring safety on the road.
The changes in the 2024 Road Traffic Safety Law demonstrate the government's concern for occupational safety in the road transport sector. Regulations on driving time not only help protect drivers' health but also contribute to minimizing traffic accident risks caused by fatigue and lack of concentration.
