Recently, the wall of the flagpole area and some places on the Upper Citadel of Hue Citadel have appeared with many drawings and graffiti. Besides, some young people also sit on the wall of the Upper Citadel to check-in, which is very dangerous.

On the afternoon of May 16, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that since the beginning of 2023, this unit has been renovating two bays, cleaning and connecting the walking path on the Upper Citadel from Nam Xuong bay (inside The Nhon gate, also known as Ngan gate) to Nam Thang bay (inside Quang Duc gate, also known as Sap gate), across Phu Van Lau flagpole.

This is considered a new check-in and sightseeing spot for tourists to see the entire Hue Citadel from above, from the Ngo Mon flagpole to the banks of the Perfume River and vice versa. Creating favorable conditions for people and tourists to conveniently go up and down the Upper Citadel, reducing traffic congestion at Ngan Gate and Quang Duc Gate.

The Thuong Thanh walking route is free and open 24/7 for all residents and tourists to visit for free.

However, recently, on the wall of the flagpole area and some places on Thuong Thanh, there have been many drawings and graffiti. In addition, some young people have been sitting on the ramparts of Thuong Thanh, which is very dangerous.

The Hue Monuments Conservation Center has assigned security guards to remind, supervise, and repaint some images, writings, and graffiti on the ramparts to ensure the proper beauty of the Upper Citadel is restored.

At the same time, warning signs were put up about writing, drawing graffiti, and climbing on the ramparts of the Upper City. However, due to limited resources, writing and drawing graffiti often occurred late at night, making detection very difficult.

“In the coming time, the Center will repaint the graffitied areas and will temporarily close the Thuong Thanh area for night tours until security forces can be deployed to monitor,” said the leader of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center.
