Temporarily stop receiving applications for issuance, renewal and re-issuance of driving licenses due to software error

On February 3rd, the Quang Tri Department of Transport announced a temporary suspension of accepting applications for renewal and reissuance of driver's licenses due to a software system for managing driver's licenses of the Vietnam Road Administration that has not yet been fixed or perfected.

Previously, in accordance with the Law on Road Traffic Safety, from January 1, 2025, the Department of Transportation began accepting applications for the renewal of driver's licenses under the new law.

However, the implementation process encountered some difficulties due to errors in the driver's license management software system of the Vietnam Road Administration. Specifically, the errors included: when selecting to print a driver's license with an expiration date, it printed a driver's license without an expiration date, and vice versa; when selecting to print only a Class A driver's license, it printed both a car driver's license and a driver's license without an expiration date; when printing a driver's license, the exam date was missing on the back of the license, or the information about the license class on the front and back did not match...

Therefore, to protect the rights of citizens and reduce pressure on the application processing department, the Department of Transport will temporarily suspend the acceptance of applications for renewal and reissuance of driver's licenses of all categories from February 3rd until the Vietnam Road Administration modifies and perfects the software, and a new announcement will be made.

For cases where a driver's license has one month or more remaining until expiration, the Department of Transportation recommends that citizens come to renew their licenses once the software is operating stably again.

For cases where driver's licenses are nearing their expiration date, the application receiving department will take a portrait photo and save it to the registration office's software. The application will be processed as soon as the Vietnam Road Administration updates and completes the software. On the other hand, for applications for license renewal or reissuance that have already been received by the Department of Transport, the department will continue to process them to ensure the rights of the people.
