The process of selecting a new head coach will have some changes. VFF has chosen coach Hoang Anh Tuan as the domestic coach of the U.23 Vietnam team, while the national team coach will still be a foreign coach. Instead of negotiating with only one candidate, VFF will establish profiles of potential candidates and contact them for preliminary meetings.

VFF will share the criteria set by VFF. For each candidate, VFF will also present the general situation of Vietnamese football, strengths and weaknesses, compare it with the general picture of regional and Asian football; describe the general characteristics of Vietnamese society and culture for candidates to initially grasp. If this candidate has worked in Asian countries (Japan, Korea, ...) or Southeast Asia, it can be considered an advantage.

Coach Troussier is not suitable for Vietnamese football and his replacement is still a foreign coach.

Actively engage with media, no age limit

Candidates must have good expertise (Pro certificate from FIFA, AFC), but VFF emphasizes suitability, keeping up with the development trend of modern football, not falling behind the general flow of world football. Candidates with a good CV is a necessary condition but must also ensure good achievements in at least the last 3, 5 or 10 years. VFF also emphasizes candidates with a gentle attitude, high learning ability, and positive interaction with the media. VFF does not make it difficult for itself by "limiting" the nationality of candidates to only Asia but is more open. VFF also does not specify the age of candidates.

Propose suitable salary

Another important factor is the salary of the head coach. If the candidate satisfies the above factors and offers a salary that is suitable for the financial capacity of VFF, that candidate will be selected.
