If the tariff is implemented, it will almost completely stop the flow of coffee from Brazil to the US market. The Brazilian Coffee Exporters Association (Cecafe) said that coffee trade negotiations with the US are currently in an important stage and have made many positive developments.
“In the areas of trade with the US, coffee is a very active commodity,” said Mr. Marcos Matos, CEO of Cecafe.
A report from Cecafe also showed that Brazil's green coffee exports in June decreased by about 31% compared to the same period last year, reaching 2.3 million bags (60kg/bag).
Specifically, Arabica coffee exports decreased by nearly 27% to 1.82 million bags, while Robusta coffee exports decreased sharply by 42% to only 476,334 bags.
From July 2024 to June 2025, Brazil’s 2024-2025 coffee crop year sees green coffee exports fall 5.4% year-on-year to 41.38 million bags. However, total export revenue (including processed coffee) reaches a record $14.7 billion.
Meanwhile, robusta coffee prices only increased slightly after the US and Indonesia reached a trade agreement with a 19% tax rate, instead of the previously expected 32%.
According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Indonesia, a major producer of robusta coffee, exported 726,000 bags of raw coffee to the US between March 2024 and February 2025, becoming an important supplier to the US market.
The United States is currently the world's largest coffee consumer, consuming more than 25 million bags of raw coffee each year, relying almost entirely on imports.
