Room rates have increased.

With the start of the academic year approaching, the demand for rental accommodation among new students in Da Nang has increased sharply.

Tran Thi Minh Hanh (from Nghe An province), a new student at the University of Technical Education (Da Nang University), and her mother wandered through the streets looking for accommodation.

Despite viewing many rental rooms, Hạnh still hasn't found one she likes. The cheapest rooms cost at least 2 million VND, but most are small and lack amenities.

"I want to find a spacious room with air conditioning, a refrigerator, and in a high, dry location, but after many days of searching, I still haven't found anything. With prices starting from 2 million VND and up, I'll have to share a room to reduce costs," Hanh expressed.

Besides facing rising prices, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Ha (a parent from Quang Tri ) worriedly said: “We have been in Da Nang for almost a week looking for accommodation for our son. Although we have looked at many places, all the rooms we liked have already been rented. I feel very worried because the start of the school year is approaching and we still don't have a stable place to stay.”

Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Hoa Khanh ward) said he had just finished renovating and upgrading three of his family's rental rooms. Although he only posted the information on social media, after just one day, all the rooms had been reserved with deposits.

"The boarding house is located near universities, is spacious, and comes furnished with tables, chairs, and wardrobes. The rent ranges from 2-4 million VND per month, depending on whether the room has air conditioning or not," Khanh shared.

Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung (Hai Chau ward) currently has 7 rooms for rent. According to her, in the past week or so, the number of people coming to view the rooms has tripled compared to before. The price ranges from 2-3 million VND/month, not including electricity, water, and other services.

"The main contacts are new students and their parents. This year, customers are making quick decisions and putting down deposits because they're worried about rooms running out; some even called to reserve a spot as early as July," Nhung said.

According to observations, fully furnished rooms are usually found in newly built houses or renovated guesthouses and hotels. These rooms typically have an area of 30 square meters or more and are equipped with beds, mattresses, wardrobes, refrigerators, kitchens, air conditioners, washing machines, and water heaters.

High-rise buildings with elevators also require tenants to pay an additional monthly maintenance fee. Prices for these types of rooms typically start from 4 million VND per month.

Student support

Mr. Truong Trung Phuong, Head of Student Management and Library Department, University of Education (Da Nang University), said that before the enrollment period, the school sent volunteers to survey dormitories, rooms, and rental prices, and posted the information on the school's channels for students to refer to and choose from.

At the same time, the school's dormitory was renovated and expanded with over 300 new, fully equipped rooms (air conditioning, hot water heaters, etc.); the school coordinated with the West Dormitory Management Board to ascertain the number of students and arranged an additional 300 rooms for registered students.

The West dormitory currently has 728 rooms with 2,600 students; the East dormitory has 418 rooms with 2,000 students residing there.

The head of the Da Nang Housing Management and Exploitation Center further informed that, in the past period, the unit has coordinated with universities and colleges to widely publicize and promote housing arrangements, and prioritize the allocation of accommodation for the following groups: children of policy beneficiary families, poor and near-poor households, students from remote areas and other provinces, outstanding students, and new students.

In the coming period, the unit will continue to focus on managing and operating the dormitory, ensuring security and order, and fire prevention and control, in order to create a safe and convenient learning and living environment for students; at the same time, building a clean and comfortable living environment, gradually forming a civilized and modern space.
