(QBĐT) - This morning, May 24, the Provincial Food Safety Steering Committee (PSSC) held a meeting to evaluate food safety and hygiene work in the first 5 months of the year and deploy key tasks for the last months of 2024. Comrade Hoang Xuan Tan, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Head of the Provincial Food Safety Steering Committee chaired the meeting.

According to the assessment of the Provincial Food Safety Steering Committee, since the beginning of the year, the Party committees and authorities at all levels from the province to the grassroots level and the Provincial Food Safety Steering Committee have actively directed agencies and units to closely follow the plans and targets to operate food safety activities in the whole province. The Department of Health - the Standing Office of the Steering Committee has actively coordinated with relevant departments, branches and sectors to synchronously implement food safety work in all fields.

In particular, the inspection, examination and handling of food safety violations are carried out promptly and in accordance with legal regulations, and establishments violating food safety are publicly announced. At the same time, the propaganda work to raise awareness and compliance with food safety among people and food production, processing and trading establishments is focused on, thereby creating a clear change in the awareness of producers, traders and consumers...

In the first 5 months of 2024, the whole province recorded only 1 food poisoning case that affected 5 people in Dan Hoa commune (Minh Hoa); the number of food poisoning cases with a small number of people infected in the province was 117 cases (an increase of 50 cases compared to the same period in 2023); there were no deaths due to food poisoning.

However, food safety assurance work still shows many shortcomings and limitations. At the conference, members of the Steering Committee focused on discussing issues related to the inspection and supervision of food safety assurance activities in the area; regulations and standards in food safety quality management; management of spontaneous services related to food safety (cooking services for weddings, street food); food safety assurance in industrial parks andeducational institutions still has shortcomings, which can affect food safety work; food safety communication work...

To continue to effectively implement food safety work in the coming time, especially during the 2024 tourist season , Mr. Hoang Xuan Tan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Head of the Provincial Food Safety Steering Committee, emphasized: Food safety work is very important, affecting all people, so units and localities need to continue to closely coordinate to strictly implement the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State on food safety work; strengthen inspection, examination and supervision of food safety work; resolutely fight, prevent and strictly handle organizations, individuals, production and business establishments that violate food safety regulations.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested departments, branches, localities, especially press agencies to strengthen communication work on the risk of food poisoning and food poisoning prevention, especially at tourist sites, areas, school canteens, industrial parks, and street food.

At the same time, the media will raise awareness and responsibility of food producers, traders and consumers; continue to mobilize and organize small businesses, small food services, and traditional markets to sign a commitment not to trade in unsafe food, poor quality food, food of unknown origin, or food that does not ensure food safety...

He noted that the health sector should focus on food safety inspection during the tourist season and during activities to celebrate the 420th anniversary of Quang Binh province; direct medical examination and treatment facilities in the province to prepare means and equipment to promptly investigate and handle food safety incidents; provide timely emergency and treatment to ensure the best health and lives of people when food poisoning occurs.
