Strengthening control and treatment of water pollution in river and stream basins

On the morning of March 27, the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD) coordinated with the Center for Research and Application of Science and Technology to organize a workshop on strengthening control and treatment of water pollution in river and stream basins in the province by 2025.

Attending the event were Mr. Tran Khac Phuc - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, along with representatives of leaders and officers in charge of environmental protection of starch, rubber, sugarcane processing factories; and business units operating infrastructure of export processing zones and industrial zones in the province.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Tran Khac Phuc said that the workshop was organized to create a forum for management agencies, experts, scientists and localities to discuss, assess the current situation, identify the risk of environmental pollution, especially in river and stream basins, which is becoming increasingly complicated, with many causes from household waste, agricultural production, industry and craft villages, and at the same time, propose specific solutions, suitable to the practical conditions of the province.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Tran Khac Phuc delivered the opening speech at the workshop.

At the workshop, delegates listened to Mr. Bui Ngoc Phi, representative of the Southern Environmental Protection Department, Department of Environmental Protection (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) deploy legal regulations related to environmental protection in production, business and service activities that enterprises must perform.

Go Ken Canal is polluted by untreated domestic wastewater from Hoa Thanh town and Tay Ninh city.

Associate Professor, Dr. Le Duc Trung - Institute of Natural Resources and Environment, Ho Chi Minh City National University, informed about the operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater treatment systems, and prevention and response to environmental incidents related to wastewater.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Le Duc Trung, most of the factories were built a long time ago, the production technology has not changed, still using underground water for production, the wastewater has not been thoroughly treated due to the old, outdated treatment technology process that is not really suitable.

Mr. Mau Van Dung - Deputy Director of the Center for Research and Application of Science and Technology shared his experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of automatic and continuous wastewater monitoring systems.

Within the framework of the workshop, the Department of Agriculture and Environment deployed nearly 100 enterprises to sign a commitment to comply with and implement wastewater control measures according to regulations.
