Improve the legal and institutional system
At the workshop, Professor Park Eul Jong, Professor of Hanyang Online University, GCS Organizing Committee Member, Director of KBS Welfare Fund shared about the models and forms of operation of disability integration services in Korea, policies and welfare systems for PWDs in Korea.
Professor Park Eul Jong said that Korea currently has more than 2.6 million PWDs, accounting for 5.2% of the total population of Korea. In recent years, Korea has introduced many laws to support PWDs in Korea. To have such policies does not happen overnight, but must be based on economic development and in all aspects. In particular, it is important to raise awareness of PWDs, because not only to help PWDs but also to integrate PWDs into the community.
Regarding the current situation of PWDs in Vietnam, Professor Park Eul Jong suggested policies for integrated services in Vietnam. Accordingly, Vietnam needs to change the social environment for PWDs, improve the legal and institutional systems, link with national economic development and increase national income...

“At this workshop, I hope to introduce to Vietnam the experience that Korea has developed so far, and at the same time, through the program, help Vietnamese PWDs integrate into the community and have the best conditions through training programs in Vietnam and Korea,” said Mr. Park Eul Jong.
Need to mainstream disability content in public services
Sharing at the workshop, Ms. Do Thi Huyen, President of the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities, said that people with severe and complex disabilities will need more support. The more complex and diverse the barriers and the more negative attitudes often require more personal support. In particular, the more people with disabilities want to participate in the community, education or workplace, the greater the barriers they will encounter, and the more support they need.

However, in reality, there are still some difficult barriers and challenges for PWDs today. That is, although Hanoi has tools to support PWDs to participate in and access transportation such as free buses, not all PWDs can take the bus. Or PWDs have to travel quite far from home to the bus stop, while the bus stops do not have places for PWDs to wait, and for PWDs in wheelchairs, it is also very difficult to get on and off the bus.
In addition, many public works still do not meet standards for PWDs to access. Therefore, PWDs still have to rely on the help of others when moving on steep, difficult roads...
“We hope that in the near future, the Hanoi Association of the Disabled will have activities to connect with disabled organizations in Korea. Because no one understands disabled people better than them, sharing among disabled organizations is also an activity to promote and create more opportunities for disabled people to integrate into the community…”, Ms. Huyen emphasized.
